it's okay I'm here now. rpgs are my second favourite genre (after side scrollers). So you'll be seeing a lot of posting from myself (unless I get trolled out of this place like most forums do)

Are you one of those guys who has something like 500 posts under your belt within your first month on the site?

the only reason saturn had a loss of quality games was because it was a very complicated system, technically that is. the other developers had problems getting used to it and makeing games for it.it wasent untill the end of the life of the american saturn that the devlopers got a hang of it and the saturn had kept on going in japan untill 2001. notice how the games near the end of its american life was realitivly good.

dreamcast is loved for the reason that it is preety customizable and it was the underdog, i think everyone loves an underdog not sure tho.

and of course the reason rpgs arnt discussed is because the dreamcast doesnt have much rpgs due to the short life span. and the saturn doesnt have much at all either for what reason i dont know beside what i said up above. these are just my ideas tho i could be wrong. also at least rpgs are always the games that dont end up in the bargain bin and are worth nice amounts, although this can be a curse for us too lol

Maybe it is because people on this forum just don't play them much now, I've said this before but the age of most people on this forum is early twenties to mid thirties, which is the age in which most people have lots of things to do like work or kids or wife or whatever. That leaves us with less time to play, its easier for me to play a couple of rounds in a fighter or puzzler after work or play a couple of Bangai-O or Contra levels in a bus or subway, than to sit through 40 minutes of cutscenes, dialogue, tutorials and trying to find a save point in an RPG.

Don't get me wrong, I've played my fair share of RPGs in the 90's and early 00's and really like the genre, but I eventually lost my patience and attention span for the cutscenes, the repetitive "you are the chosen one, take this sword, go and defeat this evil wizard to save the village" storyline and level grinding.

I never got into RPGs until the last few years. They do take a long time for us older, working, types who spend more time discussing games than playing them! That said, I'm playing through Dragon Warrior on my NES right now and loving it. I seem to enjoy the really simple ones.

I'd certainly be more the rpg seeker than anything else, and I would love to play imports...

I wish I had the time for RPGs. Three kids and two jobs means gaming is limited to 10 minute bursts for me currently.

Sell the kids to buy more games. Problem solved!

I agree that older gamers (I'm 30) don't have time for games with miles and miles of dialogue and 28 min cutscenes. That's why I love shmups: play as much or as little as you want.

I'm a very casual RPG player (yes, they exist). I've been working on Dragon Quest 8 on PS2 for like 4 years. One RPG lasts me a LONG time.

I'm only game for a few adventure or RPG titles a year; most of them have become monotonous and devoid of originality. I haven't seriously played a traditional RPG this year that wasn't a Shin Megami Tensei title. P4 (and perhaps Disgaea 3) is the only RPG I'm making time for in the next six months.

Because of my time constraints, I've cut down anything that sets a simple-life amnesiac boy on a quest to find his true calling so he can save the world and get the girl. :P
