Outside of Sonic 1, I thought the other Sonics were pretty fast paced.ZeroAX wrote:Whenever I see people complaining about the "lack of speed" in Sonic games, I know they don't know shit about how a Mega Drive Sonic game really played. 90% of the time it was all about tight platforming, and the rest of it was fast for marketing reasons ("Look how fast sonic is going, that's sooo rad").
The only thing that worries me is what he said about sonic losing momentum when he jumps, though to be honest that's true of all 3D platformers, but I still feel it is bad game design (though I understand that they do it because it's hard to control a character in 3D compared to 2D games).
Anyway I'll wait till I try it out, because I never agreed with critics on Sonic games so who knows.

The speed was a reward for being good at games a lot of times, and while you could take an obvious fast route, usually all the goodies were hidden on the alternate, more platforming-centric routes.Violent By Design wrote: Outside of Sonic 1, I thought the other Sonics were pretty fast paced.
That's what people liked about Sonic, choice and variety of play. Yeah you can go fast but, you don't have to. You can go get all those Chaos Emeralds but you'll have to hunt for them, or you could just not go get them and blaze through the game. You can jump across those narrow platforms over the water in Aquatic Ruin Zone to get to the end the fastest (and hardest way) or you can simply jump into the water and slug through it to the end.
I think what ZeroAX, and a lot of other people who like the old Sonic games understand, is that Sonic isn't 100% about going fast. So these complaints from critics that Sonic is now slow, when he wasn't always fast all the time, are really kind of strange. It's almost like the critics lack an understanding of what Sonic was just as much as Sonic Team seems to in a lot of cases. Perhaps that's the problem with the new games too. Reading the Jim Sterling review of this new game, he even mentions how it seems like every new game tries to reinvent what Sonic is, and that they really need to stick to a formula now.

Gameranking scores has at it around for 62%
http://www.gamerankings.com/wii-u/71577 ... icles.html
Same thing for the 3ds version
Kinda sad, Sonic is my favorite game Franchise and I want more people to play it but this definitely won't help.
I liked every game from sonic 1 to sonic adventure 2 and has been hit or miss since.
I wasn't going to grab a wii u soon but this isn't going to speed up or delay that.
I already forgot but what other notable games are coming out this year?

This year (2013)? Not many.Dannyslr81 wrote:I already forgot but what other notable games are coming out this year?
Super Mario 3D World comes out November 22nd (along with Zelda Parallel Worlds on the 3DS) and I can't wait. Every new video that they put out leaves me wanting the game more and more.
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze was suppose to come out some time in November or December of this year, but it got pushed back to February 2014. A lot of people complain when this happens, and although I was disappointed, I'm at the same time very happy for two reasons. One, they'd rather push it back than release a buggy or in some other way unfinished game. It seems like these days companies have no problem doing the "We'll keep the release date and patch it" thing (for example, I heard GTAV launched without online and it was patched the following week). It couldn't have been an easy choice since they're gonna miss the holiday season. And two, I'm really looking forward to 3D World. It kinda sucks when multiple AAA titles come out too close together. I'd rather focus on one until the next game comes out.
The next two huge titles, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. U, are dated 2014 as well. MK8 is "Spring 2014" and SSBU doesn't have a more specific window than 2014 AFAIK.
Although, there might still be interesting games coming before the end of 2013. Just ones that I'm not interested in and that's why I don't know.

Seems like mostly multiplatform ones besides that. Assassin's Creed, Batman, and Call of Duty off the top of my head. I think Wii Fit U and Wii Party U are also coming out before the end of the year.

Basically mostly stuff I would just play at friend's places if anything. Like MK8. Or if I decide to give Smash a shot. Same goes for Mario. We'd likely only really play that local multi. DK I don't know. Does that have multi too? Either way, not likely a game I'd play on my own.Ziggy587 wrote:This year (2013)? Wii Fit U will be available for free for everyone for about a month starting some time in November. Finally gonna put that balance board to use once more!RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Seems like mostly multiplatform ones besides that. Assassin's Creed, Batman, and Call of Duty off the top of my head. Never tried Wii Fit. But I feel more likely to get into some sort of Kinect rhythm game on the Xbox One for some half decent exercise. Though I wouldn't really be in it for the exercise. That'd just be a welcome bonus.BogusMeatFactory wrote:Wii Fit U will be available for free for everyone for about a month starting some time in November. Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Understandable. When playing Wii Fit, it really was the mini-games that were far more enjoyable than the real exercises. I don't know what they would do differently in Wii Fit U that would incorporate the gamepad, but we will have to see. For free, it is worth a shot for me.ZenErik wrote:Never tried Wii Fit. What sorts of mini games did the original have? I really don't know much about it. No one I hang out with owned it, and I never did much research on it. Wii Sports sorts of mini games or ones that involve a little more actual work out?
