Lego City is great. I rented it for a bit and really enjoyed it. I'd probably buy it for around $20-$30, but for some reason I can't get myself to pay more than that.

The first review I have found of Sonic Lost World

Unfortunately, it seems they have had the exact same problems I posted about...

The reviews really do seem all over the place for it. I see four, fives, and eight out of tens all sorts of places. Seems like it's brutally hard especially later on too.

I'd really need a demo to decide to buy it. For the record, Sonic Generations had extremely varying scores too but a lot of people seemed to like it. Who knows?

Yeah, I've seen more reviews propping up, a lot of which are negative.

To be fair, I think I could find myself enjoying it regardless of its issues and flaws. I mean, I managed to play through both Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 and enjoy myself

I didn't know Generations got a mixed response though. How could anyone dislike that game? It was a perfect return to form.

All I'll say is, it plays completely differently to Generations and Colors. Perhaps it just needs getting used to or perhaps it really is just clumsy. I need to play it more. The design of being able to travel around the world a full 360 degrees (like Mario Galaxy) really doesn't seem to work well either in my opinion though.

Part of me is gutted. I love Sonic games and it devastates me when they suck or don't live up to expectations. I'm hoping after I've played it more I'll forget all about this and will have become more accustomed to the controls and design.

Whenever I see people complaining about the "lack of speed" in Sonic games, I know they don't know shit about how a Mega Drive Sonic game really played. 90% of the time it was all about tight platforming, and the rest of it was fast for marketing reasons ("Look how fast sonic is going, that's sooo rad").

The only thing that worries me is what he said about sonic losing momentum when he jumps, though to be honest that's true of all 3D platformers, but I still feel it is bad game design (though I understand that they do it because it's hard to control a character in 3D compared to 2D games).

Anyway I'll wait till I try it out, because I never agreed with critics on Sonic games so who knows.

I completely agree. But the platforming really doesn't feel very tight. It feels quite clumsy and awkward to control.

I don't want to put you guys off though, it's just my opinion and one I acknowledge is only from my first impressions of playing the first few zones. Lots of games get mixed responses and people don't always agree with each other.

Played it some more. Definitely feels very difficult in a "controls are broken" kind of way and not a "it's just challenging" way.

This is so true, after the first couple levels in Sonic 1 and 2, going fast is only going to get you killed faster. The later levels are very slow and precision oriented, but like you said, most people seem to think that if hes not running, its not good.

Well. Selling my Wii U to a friend. I'll borrow it when SMT x FE hits. Other than that, I think I'll be fine without one.

That's a shame. :(

So, Sonic Lost World seems to have ZombiU syndrome. Some people seem to think it's as good as generations ala Jim Sterling, but then you get the 4/10s from Eurogamer's staff. Though, even Sterling said; "Sonic Lost World most certainly requires some acclimation on the part of the player. In fact, I despised it when I first started, and it wasn't until I got used to the subtle intricacies and replayed a few levels with a fresh perspective that I found myself having a ton of fun with it."

The game has a demo in Japan so hopefully we get that.

What strikes me as strange is that almost all the previews said it controlled well. I don't know what happened there.

It has a lot of 5, 6, and 7/10s. The Metacritic total for it is only 70% or something like that.
