I've met close to a hundred North Carolinians who wear Cubs caps and are neither from Chicago nor a Cubs fan. Here is how it plays out:

Me: Nice hat. From Chicago?

Dood: Huh-uh.

Me: Cubs fan?

Dood: Not really.

Me: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO YOURSELF? YOU HAVE A CHOICE MAN!!! I WAS BORN IN CHICAGO AND AM BURDENED SEASON AFTER SEASON BY MY SHITTY TEAM AND WEAR THIS HAT AS A BADGE OF HUMILITY AND HONOR! WHAT POSSIBLE REASON WOULD YOU HAVE TO WEAR THIS SCARLET LETTER OF SHAME UPON YOUR CRANIUM?


Seriously, why would anyone not from North Chicago want to be a Cubs fan? My team sucks, the manager sucks, and the owners suck. Plus. the only good Cubs player is one that gets traded to another team.

Now I own a few Boston Bruins sweaters and have only been to Boston once, but I loved Neely, Bourque, Moog, Juneau...the entire squad. What is there to like about the Cubs besides the fat they stink? I don't get it.

Yeah, my girlfriend's family is from Chicago. She tells everyone who asks about sports teams that she is a Bears fan. If baseball gets brought up, she again asserts that she is a Bears fan and then no longer speaks.

Boy do I know that feeling. The Blackhawks, Bulls, and White Sox have had some incredible moments, but when it comes to the Cubs...they stink.

I would agree with that, but I'd feel even worse if it was someone who liked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They have a .396 winning percentage, making them the worst team in the NFL overall.

Of course, I live in Atlanta, and at .427 the Falcons aren't much better...
