it occurs to me that I could shoot for the same goal Ack has at this point, since I'm at 12 movies (+1 tonight gives me 13) and only 16 days into the month. Hmmmm....

Yeah, I managed to make up for one of the lost days from this weekend, but I probably won't get another chance to do so again until Friday, since Wednesday is when I get together with my girlfriend, and I usually play games on Steam with Fastbilly and other friends on Thursday. I'm currently at 14 (planning on beint at 15 after tonight). Maybe I ought to keep a tally...

I don't think I'm going to hit the entirety of my proposed list, though. From Beyond was damaged when I tried renting it earlier this week, and Videodrome (yes, I rent from a place called Videodrome) isn't sure how soon they can get in a replacement. The staff also said Trick r' Treat is immensely popular this time of year, so I'm going to check on its status before doing anything for the rest of the month until I can see it, but I may get unlucky. And the Stake Land box has gone MIA, though the staff said they still have a copy of it and can pull it if I ask. They've got plenty of other films, but I might not be able to get all of what I want.

Also...why is Night of the Demons so hard to get!? I've been to mainstream stores, specialty shops, and rental places, both here and in Alabama, and I cannot find a copy of either the original or the remake. I might have to break down and just order it off Amazon.

I assume you've tried streaming services?

Speaking of Amazon, I ordered Psycho II/Psycho III/Psycho IV from Amazon today (all for under $7!), at least two of which I plan to watch on Sunday with some folks. I've never seen any of them, and have always heard wildly mixed reviews...

I don't think Night of the Demons is available on streaming from Netflix, and none of the machines hooked up to my television are connected to the Internet beyond a Wii U that belongs to my roommate(which is how we stream Netflix). I'd prefer not to have to watch a movie on my laptop if possible, hence why I had been looking at stores and rental places. I also need accurate subtitle options, as I often have to keep the films quiet while my roommate works the evening shift.

I've got five bucks saying that Dishwasher will think all three of those films are a hair above boring.

That reminds me a lot of Mike in There's Nothing Out There, the character that knows he is in a horror film and acts accordingly.

I watched The Killer Shrews last night. It's...well, it's definitely not good, but I still enjoyed myself. The plot follows a sea captain who arrives to pick up a passenger from a small research facility on an island but is unable to leave due to an impending hurricane that apparently comes during the night but is the quietest hurricane I have ever heard. Once on the island, the captain learns that it is overrun by venomous mutant shrews the size of wolves, and that his passenger is a hot Swedish chick with a jealous fiancee who looks vaguely like a drunk Kirk Douglas.

First, I do give the film credit for having a capable Latino character. Unfortunately, he dies second, after the black guy. So the film's not all that progressive. Also, about 75% of the film takes place inside one room, and an additional 5% takes place inside a metal bucket, so...not a lot of action. And while the Swedish chick is hot, and her dad is actually a pretty stand-up guy that is totally cool with her hooking up with a streetwise boat captain, their accents can get pretty rough at times. But the important thing is, the shrews...which are dogs wearing rugs and fake teeth!

I have to give the guys who made this film some credit, as the idea of venomous wolf-sized creatures which will consume everything, even bones and each other, until the final one dies of starvation, is a pretty terrifying idea. And making the monsters a freak mutation while doing experiments concerning overpopulation? Not bad at all, especially considering the end result of eugenics experimentation in previous decades and the impending fears of overpopulation that would lead us to works like Stand on Zanzibar a decade after this film's release. But the acting is poor, the dialogue cheesy, and the movie horribly cliche. There's a reason this film was perfect MST3K fodder(just like The Screaming Skull), and I suggest checking it out if you love corny 1950s B-movies for a laugh.

But watch it in a group. This movie is far too shockingly bad to watch alone!

Anguish

Creepshow
The Beyond
Zombi 2

The Burning
The Descent
Trick r' Treat
The Innkeepers
Stake Land
The Evil Dead (remake)
The Lords of Salem
The Gate
Kuroneko

The problem is that no one realizes that they're in a horror movie... UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE!!!

This is definitely what happened to the main character in:
The Innkeepers.

Oh no, Mike knows. Mike knows the instant he arrives at the lone house in the woods that he is in a horror movie. He tries to warn everyone, he refuses to sleep around, he nails the windows shut and even in one scene jumps up and grabs the boom mike to swing to safety. He also spends the movie cracking jokes but taking the time to learn about the monster he is up against.

Mike survives.
