Re: POLL: Together Retro 2014 Nominations & Discussion Thre
Are we not sticking with the multiple ports ideal? I mean I love Longest Journey, but it is a PC only game. Same with Castle of the Winds, Blood, and for all intensive purposes, Phantasmagoria - it had a Japan only Saturn port.
Re: POLL: Together Retro 2014 Nominations & Discussion Thre
I'm going to have to agree with him here. I'm not feeling a lot of love for this preliminary calendar. I know it's what's been voted in, but for the first time since I've joined, I probably won't be playing the entire year. Too many double-genre nominations going on this year too. I give AJ a lot of credit merely keeping up with it all.Jmustang1968 wrote:It is more of a case of my tastes not lining up with what has been voted for so far. If this list sticks, it will be the worst TR year since I have been here by a wide margin. For whatever that opinion is worth I suppose. Just wouldnt be good overall if participation drops off.
If one of my nominations can get through without any disagreement, I'd love to see MULE on the calendar. It's leading the Sim genre too. What about F-Zero series for the other blank spot? I seem to remember that was the runner up to Road Rash last year.Ack wrote:Just keep in mind that M.U.L.E. is happening. This has been handed down from above.
I would still maybe suggest putting all the Capcom fantasy style beat em ups together, that would definitely be a good month to increase participation.
Finally, I've been wanting to vote for these games but I forgot to -
+1 Metal Gear
+1 F-Zero Series
+1 Shock Troopers

Racket has mentioned that he would like to have MULE on the calender for the past few years. I always pushed back on it because of the possible online version as mentioned earlier in this thread. And while I do agree it is a great game that everyone should play, I will not be voting for anything this year just to see what wins out of you lot. I dont usually play TR games at the same time as the rest of you, but I do end up playing most of them. Ack and I were talking last weekend about how great it was to play Defender with everyone.Ack wrote:By the gods and because you need to play it.dsheinem wrote:by who? why?Ack wrote:Just keep in mind that M.U.L.E. is happening. This has been handed down from above.
But seriously though, there's always discussion amongst a few of us and Racket about what goes on the list, and this is one that is being championed.

I don't know about the others, but The Longest Journey is on a platform that everybody owns (a PC) and it's compatible with every modern computer, be it netbook, laptop or desktop, cause it's been released by gog, which means every OS from windows 98 to windows 8 can run it.fastbilly1 wrote:Are we not sticking with the multiple ports ideal? I think it's harder to pick single platform games when it's a console game (though that didn't stop Silent Hill 2 and Zombies to be the games for the current month)

And while everyone has a PC that can run it, it is still PC exclusive and several people here do not play PC games. Heck Noise didnt until this year.

Ok I didn't know that Silent Hill 2 had so many ports (specially that it was ported to the PC).
Ok ok zombies was released on 4 systems too
. It's probably enough because all the forum users are bound to own 1 of those 4 systems (I own 3), but I guess I was comparing it to arcade games which got ported over to 10+ different systems/computers/consoles/handhelds ect.
But I still think gog games should be considered safe picks

:S :S. I can understand it being a problem if people don't have computers that can run it, but isn't the point of this thing for people to try different type of games (and games in general) they never played before? And while everyone has a PC that can run it, it is still PC exclusive and several people here do not play PC games. PC exclusives are fine I say - everyone here has a PC.
It's worlds away from something like, say, a TurboGrafx-16 exclusive.

How about arcade exclusives that run perfectly on mame?BoneSnapDeez wrote:PC exclusives are fine I say - everyone here has a PC.
