Lame.

True metal bands release only about 50 or so copies of their first album. Cassette only.

You must be thinking of nu metal or something.

I honestly don't know what type of metal they were.

@Hobie- the metal band wasn't on a label either. May just be an odd occurrence of expectations.

I also had a great conversation today with a fantastic guy who argued that doom/stoner/sludge fans are really into any form of metal, that Black Sabbath wasn't metal, and that white people should have dreads or mohawks or tattoos because it is cultural appropriation.

I know this isn't a popular thing to ask but do you think collecting is just a sugarcoated form of consumerism? If not, what's the difference?

Everyone likes to have things, but when it comes to buying things you don't need in ever-greater amounts to please yourself...yes, that's consumerism.

If you're doing it to build a library or archive or something it might be a little different, but I'm sure not making a library of Penguin classic books or Kokoro Connect figures.

Ok then. Consumerism is perceived as a "disease" to many. Why are we all so okay with that? :?

Because other people's opinions on how you live your own life (unless it affects them) don't mean jack shit.
