Charity T-Shirts - Sorry, maybe next year?

Post by Ziggy »

UPDATE:

Sorry to say, there will be no T-shirts for the 2013 auction. According to the polls, there IS enough demand for them, but some of the finer details got the best of us. But this poll shows that there IS enough demand for them, so hopefully we can work on getting them for the 2014 auction!

Some of the other members came up with a better way of going about this, and convinced me that it is indeed the better way, but we got tripped up with some of the finer details with not enough time to iron it all out. So we'll try again for next year.

PLEASE READ BEFORE VOTING!

For those that don't know, the forums here hold a charity auction every year some time in December. 100% of the funds raised go to a charity that the community picks. I would like to get these T-Shirts made up and donate them to the auction this year. But of course, I need to know if there's enough demand for them. That is what this poll is for! If you would like to bid on a T-Shirt in this year's charity auction, then let me know by voting!

Only vote IF YOU INTEND to actually bid on a shirt in the charity auction. Pick the size shirt you would bid on. Your vote here will be used to determine how many shirts and of what sizes are needed. Please be at least "reasonably sure" you will actually be bidding on one. You can change your vote if you change your mind, but be sure to have your final answer by October 31rst. That is the deadline to order the shirts.

SHIRTS ARE PRE-SHRUNK so chose your size accordingly.

edit: Here are the shirt details:

ImageImage

Fabric: 100% Cotton Jersey
Weight: 5.3 oz
- Preshrunk Jersey knit
- Seamless double needle 7/8 collar
- Taped neck and shoulders
- Double needle sleeve and bottom hems
- Quarter-turned to eliminate center crease

The shirts will be professionally made.

No, I'm not making them at the kitchen table with inkjet transfer paper. This will be pro-quality screen printing.

I'm using this poll to determine two things. One, how many shirts should be in the auction (that whole supply and demand thing). And two, how many of each size. Too many shirts with not enough bidders, the shirts wont sell for as much money. Too little shirts with too much demand, there will be sore losers. I have to try and find a balance.

The shirts will look like this:

The design in not finalized yet, I'll listen to any input. However, it was designed in such a way to keep costs down. Solid color shirt, simple one color design. Perhaps if the shirts prove popular enough this year, we can do something a little more interesting for next year, but let's cross that bridge when we get there. I'm not looking to change the overall design of the shirts this year, but I'll still listen to any input. What can easily be tweaked is the size and placement.

If you don't like the way the shirt looks, please let me know!

If the reason why you will not bid on a shirt is because you don't like the way it looks, please let me know by posting in this thread. Let me know what you don't like about it.

Would it be better if the shirt just said "Racketboy" on it and didn't have the year or "charity auction" text?

edit: Here's a visual of that:

There's a XXL size I could get, but they cost a bit more. I just assumed leave them out. There's also a minimum order for the shirts, and IDK what that means for the XXL size. I could find out.

I don't see your vote. I added the XXL size to the poll, so you might have to vote again because of that.

I understand the more letters you print, the more it costs (on small orders at least) but "Charity Auction" doesn't say much.

Could be just me, but "Charity Auction Participant" conveys a sense of pride of joining in the auction.

OK, I just found out. I could mix in XXL with whatever other size I'm getting. XXL has been added to the poll.

I know that some places charge per letter and similar, but that's not actually the case here. What ever the design is, it's turned into a stencil (the screen in screen printing). So adding words and whatnot wont change the cost. Adding more ink colors would, though.

The auction is called the Racketboy Charity Auction, no? That's why I figured "2013 Racketboy Charity Auction" would be the best text to use. When some one sees the shirt, they'll know it came from that auction. I don't see the benefit of adding "participant" to it, but that's just my opinion.

Just looking at things with my marketing hat on. The benefit of added "Participant" or "Donator" is that people will be more likely to ask you about the auction if you are labeled/branded.

I'm not ribbing you at any extent and in no way mean to be rude, it's that "Racketboy charity auction" reminds me of when Dwight Shrute threw a birthday party. Give the t-shirt a call to action that gets more people involved, I say.

Sorry to have to do this, I swear it's the last time, but you'll have to vote again.

I had to change the poll options to include "I don't want a shirt" in case a person changes their mind after voting. I also took the oppurtunity to change the poll end date (the original end date was set to Nov 3 but my actual deadline is Nov 1rst). Changing the poll options resets the poll, but this is the last time.

TO ANY ONE THAT HAS VOTED UP TO THIS POINT, PLEASE VOTE AGAIN. THE POLL HAS BEEN RESET!
