X Arcade Stick

Post by GirlGamer55 »

I just picked up a X Arcade Solo at a yard sale for like...almost free basicly and I have no idea how to use it. I know it's made for MAME machines but since I know jack about doing that, I thought I would just use it for my game systems. It came with a hook up for GameCube and Xbox. I tried it out on the Xbox first because I had a beat em up game on it.

Well it didn't work, so I went to their site and figured out I had to plug in both P1 and P2 plugs. So the red led came on. Now the buttons don't work. I'm trying to press start to get off the game menu but it's not working (from what I can see from the manual the white button is start?). Because I bought it used I can't really ask them to fix it for me or to ask for help. And their "support" area doesn't help me.

I'm hoping one of you has used one of these and can tell me how the heck to work it.

This is the manual I found: http://www.xgaming.com/service/ServiceF ... %20USA.pdf not much help. But maybe i'm missing something obvious in it?

Help?

I have an X-Arcade and I use it for MAME. I also have the Dreamcast adapter. A while back I had to replace the PCB connectors because it wouldn't be recognized on my computer or DC. The LED would light, but the device wouldn't work. Since you bought yours used, I'd check into it.

First though, make sure the mode switch is all the way to the left (that is, when you're looking straight down at it, move it to the left side) and hit the black button near the switch 2 times. That will put it in the default mode for MAME and all consoles.

If that's no good, it's designed to be serviced by the user (you), so simply flip it over, open it up and inspect the 2 PCB cables that are on the top (see image) they are 2 simple Molex connectors. I'd make sure all the other connectors are tight too, they power the buttons -

Make sure they are connected to the PCB securely, then close it back up. You might also want to download the X-Arcade test program. (did a USB cable come with the stick to connect to a computer?) Make sure the Mode switch is all the way to the left (left side when you're looking straight down at it), hit the black button next to it 2 times, and then test it with the program.

Is the power LED brightly lit, or dim? I bought one used and had problems with it working, and light would only come on dim. In my case it was the serial style cable that was the problem. After checking continuity, the shielding was the problem. After contacting their support and confirming the issue, they shipped me a cable out immediately for free. I thought that was really fantastic support considering I didn't buy it new from them.

I think you have discovered why it was available so cheaply at a yard sale.

no, they are quality sticks for the price with lifetime warranties. no stick is incapable of breaking or having an occasional problem.

They say they're built like tanks, and they mean it. Their customer service is awesome too.

I meant not to suggest that it was a piece of crap, but more than the owner probably was getting rid of it because it didn't work.

I slid it all the way to the left and hit the black button on the other side of the back two times (since that's the only button near it?) but nothing happened. And no, I don't have a USB cable for it, just a Xbox and GC connector.

And the led is brightly lit (for the other guy who asked). I really hate taking stuff apart but I'll try to open it tomarrow. Since i'm not looking at it right now, how do you open it up? Just a normal phillips head?

So I opened it...after fiddling around with it because the bottom cover did not want to come off! And then I realized, I have no fucking idea what the hell a PCB cable is.

So heres a picture of mine, maybe you can see what's wrong:

Thanks for doing it. Looking at your PCB you have an older model, 1st generation X-Arcade. That will not have a PCB cable like my picture shows. That must also have a PS/2 keyboard port on the back of it, as this picture points out (the 2nd image is the newer model which I have and which would have that special connection to the PCB, an upgrade kit to that particular PCB is on the X-Arcade site) -

I would just make sure all the white connectors are firmly in place on the PCB, and then try connecting to the console again. As soon as you connect everything to your console and after turning on the console, make sure the switch is in the position closest to the serial cable port as in the 1st picture above (I might have been wrong in my earlier instruction on that) then hit that nearby black button 2 times again. I forgot to point out hitting it once will make the red LED go out, but hitting it again will have it come back. This puts it into Mode 1 which is used for MAME and for consoles.
