It is, that's why I brought the whole point up, though I might've accidentally misinterpreted his meaning. It's such an inane point to bring up in a conversation about game design.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

That and the writing. I think good game writing - especially in an FPS that purports story as important - needs to suck you in very quickly. I'm more forgiving with an RPG taking some time, but I suppose when it comes to hybrids that, if quality FPS gameplay isn't there (which it isn't in DE), then I expect the story to quickly explain why I should spend so much time enduring it. DE didn't do that for me, so I found my time with it unfun and I lacked the motivation/interest to want to persevere to see if the story got interesting.

There is just something about Deus Ex that just isn't clicking on me. I just think there are more interesting choices out there. I have no clue why I feel this, guess I'm just not in the mood for Deus Ex.

As I said before, I'm voting against Deus Ex. The idea of playing games like Shock Troopers seem to excite me more.

Fair enough. Fans and professional designers alike often tout the first level as a very well designed level (explaining the player the mechanics, offering multiple paths, secrets, telling info about the setting with out cutscenes/conversations like the statue of liberty with out a head etc), but if you're playing the first time, feeling a bit lost or clueless can happen. It's the exact opposite of something like Half Life or Half Life 2 that starts you on a linear path and shows you everything you need to know about the game. Deus Ex is more subtle than that and it's up to the player to find a lot of important information from the environment. It's a more oldschool approach to game and level design in a newish game: drop the players into the setting and let them figure out stuff on their own.

They are completely different games and genres, not likely in the same category. Shock Troopers is an arcade game, Deus Ex is a RPG.

Yes.....I'm well aware of that. I'm pretty sure I did not say or imply otherwise.

Then why mention it in the first place? When comparing the two you're giving the impression like the other is an alternative to the other, while in reality they are two games so different from each other that they're not under the same label or category; you play each game for a different reason.

That isn't the impression I gave at all. I actually said bluntly that a game like Shock Troopers interest me more than Deus Ex. I never gave any implication that Shock Troopers makes Deus Ex obsolete. I never even said why I'd rather play a game like Shock Troopers, every thing else is just something you've fabricated off of your own biases.

Also, do you actually realize what this thread is about? You do realize that only 12 games from 12 different genres can be chosen right? Naturally games that are from different genres and eras are going to be compared, because last I checked there are more than 12 genres in gaming. So actually saying something like I'd rather play PSO over Deus Ex is basically what this thread will eventually come down too.

I'd rather play Shock Troopers over Deus Ex. Analyze that statement, and tell me where your point about them being 'different' games is relevant? Does them being different games mean that I cannot have preference to play one more?

Thanks for all the DE love, fans! 5 votes now. But why all the scuffling with Shock Troopers and DE? They're 2 separate genres. Let ST win the Action category. If that won that's a good one.

Lost Vikings has a GBA port?

*looks at prices*

and it's pretty affordable! I can't say its a +1 for me yet. I really wanted Solomon's Key but I don't see a lot of support behind it.
