ah, so you're saying that TR should include RPGs and shmups, and that the TRPG and SOTM groups should just be part of TR during those months?Hatta wrote:noiseredux wrote:it seems to me that the other groups were formed because there were folks who weren't interested in TR and just wanted to play either shmups or RPG's all year long.
Sure, but those of us who do TR would like to play RPGs and shmups too. During those months, if we could coordinate, we'd get more players and more conversation.

That, or TR could skip a couple months and defer to TRPG and SotM. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. It might be nice for those groups to get featured on the front page for once too. If they're interested that is.

We should just start doing articles for those as well, IMO.Hatta wrote:That, or TR could skip a couple months and defer to TRPG and SotM. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. It might be nice for those groups to get featured on the front page for once too. If they're interested that is.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.
Re: Together Retro 2014 Nominations & Discussion Thread
I wasn't saying to defer to the other groups, when I said we collaborated, it was really a matter of coincedence. SOTM didn't start until the 2012 TR calendar was already put together, and they voted Dodonpachi for December so we figured to save ourselves a pick we'd just join them. It was a lot more fun doing that together. I was also saying that if a shmup was going to be part of next year's lineup, SOTM would probably join in by playing that pick for the month. As far as I know, TRPG has a different schedule, 4 picks every 3 months.
I just want to see the best game representation from the community for next year. We made a good calendar last year, and I know with all these picks, we can make 2014 great too. I can imagine this is no easy task, but when it's all done, it's like a huge sigh of relief. at least for me

I'm reasonably sure that is the correct way to spell Psychonauts.TEKTORO wrote:Psychonauts (probably misspelled )

Re: Together Retro 2014 Nominations & Discussion Thread
Well there's been plenty of suggestions, and while I was going to suggest Rise of the Triad again, I'm perfectly content with Blood instead.
So looking at the spreadsheet, and going by the categories AJ has split them up into, a few titles I'm in favor of:
2d platformer
+ Great Giana Sisters
RPG
I'd like to submit Shadowrun for consideration. Yes, each version is different and only on one platform, but I'm putting it out there anyway.
MMORPG
+ All of them. I think its a great idea, I love PSO, WoW is ok, and I'd happy to try out either of the FFs or any other title that may be suggested.
Action/Adventure
+ Valkyrie No Densetsu
+ Grand Theft Auto
+ Metal Gear
+ Monster World
Rail Shooter
+ Space Harrier
Shmup
Doesn't matter to me, the shmups I'd be most interested in playing at the moment are only on one platform (as far as I'm aware) so there's no sense in me arguing about it.
Beat 'em ups
+ I'm in favor of these in general. If I must support a particular one, lets go with D&D, just because its a great fucking game and everyone needs to play it.
3d Hack & Slash/Beat 'em up
All we have is Devil May Cry, which I'm in favor of (call it a +) but I'd also submit Ninja Gaiden, which is available on the original xbox and ps3.
FPS
+++ Blood
Seriously. Blood.
Sim
+Harvest Moon
Adventure
+ Gabriel Knight
Horror in October
+ for the Blood/Typing of the Dead double bill. Me likey.
3d Platformer
+ Crash Bandicoot
Though I kinda think this should cover Crash 1-3.
Racing
+ F-Zero series
Need an excuse to finally buy GX
Puzzle
+Oddworld
Mostly because I've never played it
Fighting
+ Eternal Champions
Run 'n Gun
+ Alien Soldier
Strategy
+ Starcraft
Sports
+ Virtua Tennis
So that's where I stand at the moment.

Throw Power Gear in there and just call it Capcom Beat 'em up Month. I've been a Konami fan forever, but I've not taken enough time to appreciate Capcom's catalog. This is a good chance to move beyond Final Fight. I'd like to explore other Capcom Beat 'em Ups.ExedExes wrote:- I see there is interest for Capcom beat em ups. I would still suggest maybe grouping my 2 and AJ's 2 and have a medieval/fantasy month out of it.

Re: Together Retro 2014 Nominations & Discussion Thread
Are there any discernible differences between the Snes, Megadrive and GBA versions of Lost Vikings?
Might have missed this as well but, how are we playing PSO if it is nominated? Is there a free or trial based version of it out there?
Also +1 Deus Ex
+1 Shock Troopers
+1 Space Harrier

SNES version is the original and (in my opinion) the best.Sload Soap wrote:Are there any discernible differences between the Snes, Megadrive and GBA versions of Lost Vikings?
Mega Drive version has some bonus levels and a 6-button controller is highly recommended.
GBA version is a port of the SNES game. The passwords have been replaced by a save feature. That's isn't to say the passwords in the original game are cumbersome though - they are only 4 characters long.
With all that said, if the game is chosen for TR (and it should be!) I'll be picking up the Amiga CD32 port (assuming it isn't insanely overpriced).
