I don't think the other groups should affect what TR does. I enjoy both RPGs and shmups, but I have a hard enough time keeping up with TR, let alone following two other groups.

I'm in favor of doing either Ultima IV or CotW. Ultima IV is awesome, and you guys have sure talked up CotW, so I'm intrigued. If you do an MMO it should be in addition to a tradiditional RPG.

If Deus Ex is vetoed, Rainbow 6 is a great alternative.

And what recent announcement is relevant to Gabriel Knight? (BTW, GK is incredibly well written, acted, and produced. It would be a fantastic choice)

This is how I feel too. I think of TR as like the officially endorsed by RB himself forum-wide game club. That's what I'll tend to focus on. And like Hatta, just keeping up with those is hard enough sometimes. I've yet to even try the TRPG, and although I love shmups I've found it very tough to participate in SOTM this year.

I agree that RPG and MMO should be/could be two different months. I love PSO, but I don't think of it as an RPG.

I'd be more interested in playing either of these over Blood personally.

Remake of the first game, I believe?

should we vote on whether to include an RPG and a shmup, then?

Again, there are a boatlaod of opportunities to play shmups and RPGs WITH people on the forum. I don't think their "recognition" on the front page is a very compelling argument to warrant their taking of a spot that could go to another game. The point is playing/talking about games together, and we do that with those genres in a structured way already.

Also, perhaps if someone REALLY wants an RPG or shmup included, they could bid for the right to declare one in the auction :) I'd be happy to move the auction pick to something like June, for example, if we decided to go that route. That would give ample time between announcing the game (in December) and playing it (in June).

I don't think necessary yet. I feel like it should just be majority rule... whatever genres get the most votes win. No?

Or rather, my hope is we somehow magically shape this big list into a much smaller list that we're all mostly happy with.

Although... I'm not sure how we get to there from here right now haha. We gotta start whittling somehow.

well, maybe it's sour grapes since last year I wanted a shmup included and the argument was made and widely accepted that we don't need it since we have a club for the genre. now some of those same folks are advocating for RPGs...

haha, I hear you. I don't remember that. I assume I was also lobbying for a shmup to be included?

Anyway, guys, how do we get from our big-ass list of games down to lean 12 month calendar that we can all feel pretty good about?

I propose that maybe we could include some 'alternate' genres like MMO, Roguelike, Rail Shooter or similar, and perhaps the shmups or RPGs with lots of nominations (like Ikaruga) could be included in the list for next years Shmup of the Month and Together RPG threads.

I feel more inclined to include RPG than shmup as I feel that RPG has a lot of distinct feelign subgenres (JRPG, WRPG, Strategy RPG, Action RPG, MMORPG, Roguelike) that aren't all able to be represented by the RPG club in one year, whereas with 12 shmups in a year (which I personally believe is a genre with far less significant subgenre distinctions) it should be easy to cover a bit of everything.

tl;dr - I think the top voted shmups and rpgs should be considered for next years Shmup/RPG clubs, and only distinct or unique subgenres like MMO should be considered for Together Retro itself.

EDIT: Plus, with a 30 day free trial for most MMORPGs, it would be better to have one focused month where we all play one together!

Probably by giving it more than 4 days to develop. I am sure other folks will chime in, weigh in over the next couple of weeks. There's not a great urgency to finalizing everything in the next few days or anything...

I disagree. Those clubs have their own groups of dudes that decide on games themselves.

Yeah agreed totally. I'm just looking for direction here. Not finalization.
