Played some SNES ZAMN today. Wandering around like an idiot got me to level 8 before I let the giant baby walk all over me.

They will a little bit, but you can easily evade almost everything. And keep in mind that the board with nail is only one of the melee weapons you'll find, so there may be one that feels a lot more comfortable to you. I generally favor the metal pipe in the first three games, at least until I get something like the katana in SH3. In SH4, I tend to use the broken bottle a lot.jay_red wrote:Well this could make it a little more tolerable, I thought the enemies would chase you if you just passed them.AppleQueso wrote:SH2:
The clunky combat controls are supposed to encourage you to avoid combat actually. Running away is almost always a better option, frankly you shouldn't be trying to kill things unless they're blocking your way or you need to clear a room or something.
I usually play the games with action level on "hard", which bumps up the enemy count and makes them tougher to kill, so I obviously don't mind the combat.

Now see, when I was younger I didn't know that about some of the survival horror games. The thought of running never crossed my mind. Thus the reason I kept dying in Resident Evil games. I thought I was supposed to be killing all the zombies. It took forever before it occurred to me that I could just run the f*&k away from most of them.Ack wrote:They will a little bit, but you can easily evade almost everything.jay_red wrote:Well this could make it a little more tolerable, I thought the enemies would chase you if you just passed them.AppleQueso wrote:SH2:

Played ZAMN and stopped at Level 17. That's about right for me when I play through it. Levels 12-16 can be really tough and you're guaranteed to lose some victims.
I'll be back on SH2 this weekend.

alright, enough procrastination. Time to start Silent Hill 2!

That's not too far off from the time it took to install it to PC. (then finding all the patches and fixes to get it to work right on a modern machine)noiseredux wrote:alright, enough procrastination. Time to start Silent Hill 2!

played maybe an hour of SH2. Walked a lot. Found a board to hit things with. Saved.
Re: Together Retro: ZAMN / Silent Hill 2
After getting through SH1 on Normal and having my past experience of SH2... I started it on Easy (Normal puzzles), haha oh well. I'm not totally playing this for the combat. Although now it's almost too easy and it's like I have infinite bullets, because I'm not even using the gun this time.
I'm past the apartments, so already beyond where I got stuck years ago. Liking it a lot more this time around.
So far I'm not sure which I prefer, but it's obviously early to say. I did love how mysterious and subtle SH1 was for the first half though. In comparison SH2 seems more personal with James' character... everyone and everything symbolizing and reflecting things I'm sure. The music is a nice upgrade from SH1. The music in the first was fine, but this one seems to have more of those cool smooth/jazzy tracks in the character parts and such.
