for starters, since we have "shmup of the month" and "together RPG" groups, I am not sure why we're even considering those genres. Last year we decided that a SOTM club put shmups out of contention, and I would think that the RPG club does the same. So, to begin, we can get rid of those nominations...

well I half-agree. I can see the point of doing that, but that's also assuming that people are doing "together RPG" instead of TR, which isn't always the case. I haven't done any TRPG myself. I guess I think of SOTM and TRPG as more just groups of guys doing their on thing on the forum - like guys who like RPG's participate in TRPG and guys who are into shmups already do SOTM - and not quite as widespread as the TR titles which get frontpage writeups and are chosen by the whole community and tend to get folks to try genres (be it RPG's ro shmups) outside of their usual comfort zone. BUT, that is a good enough point to at least consider it a valid option, yeah.

If we see them this way, should we start doing articles on them like we do for TR?

Sorry for the unorthodox posting method, but I also have some unorthodox ideas to introduce. All of them I believe to be excellent, of course.
--------------

January: StarCraft - we haven't played an RTS since June of 2012, which is the only one we played ever in TR. This is inarguably one of the most popular games of all time and was instrumental in creating e-sports. We could play the great campaign or play against one another, or both.

February: I would like to auction off this pick in the charity auction ;)

March: Mega Man - somehow we've never played a Mega Man game for TR. This seems like a sin.

April: Ballz 3D/ Eternal Champions - Fighters - These were good suggestions. I think we could/should do a double bill of "non-arcade fighters" this month, if only because past experience dictates that enthusiasm and interest for fighting games runs out pretty quickly. Since some see these games as a joke, April makes sense.

May: GTA series (pre-3D) - ok, this was a good suggestion too.

June: World of Warcraft - MMO. Ok, we've never done an MMO and since this has been around for so long and has a one month free trial, I think it would be fun to get groups of n00bs together to play it/try it out/understand what the appeal is. I am sure this is a controversial pick, but it's one that I think would really fit with the "community participation" vibe of TR if done correctly. It also falls outside of the genres that were considered for "Together RPG"

July: F-Zero series - Racing. Plenty of games to choose from, each of which is regarded as an important title in its respective system library. Plus, there's an arcade near me with F-Zero AX in it. :)

August: Rez - Rail shooter. We've never played a rail shooter for some reason, and this is one that is widely acclaimed and has several ports.

September: Devil May Cry - 3D Stylistic Hack N' Slash. This game is largely responsible for defining a subgenre that has been very successful for the past decade. It's an amazing game, has an HD port on two systems, and is a monument to excellent design.

October: Double Bill of Blood (FPS) and Typing of the Dead (Typing). Two cult classics that have aged well. We've never played a typing game.

November: Space Invaders - Again, one of the most important and influential games of all time and one we've not played. it would be fun to explore all the various clones and ports and to compete for high score.

December: In the original post for TR, Nick mentioned a "prize for top discussion contributor". I think that this month's choice should be decided by somebody who a committee decided was the top contributor to TR discussion from January-November.

I agree.

I like this.

I'd counter-suggest Phantasy Star Online. There's versions on PC, Dreamcast, PSP, GameCube, and DS that are all still functional online.
July: F-Zero series - Racing. Plenty of games to choose from, each of which is regarded as an important title in its respective system library. Plus, there's an arcade near me with F-Zero AX in it. :)
I could get behind this.
October: Double Bill of Blood (FPS) and Typing of the Dead (Typing). Two cult classics that have aged well. We've never played a typing game.
Typing of the Dead I'm with. No idea on BOB, but my FPS pick this year is Deus Ex hard. So I'd maybe swap BOB with another game for the double-bill.

I'd be against Phantasy Star online since we've played a PS game. That said, I'd also prefer WoW over Starcraft if we just picked one Blizzard game...

and it is Blood, not Bill of Blood. I shouldn't have capitalized "Double Bill".

And Deus Ex sucks. Hard.

If your schedule of games is what we're gonna be ending up going with, at least give us that.

Thank you :) If anything, that's all I'd want to see there.

I'm not sure about WoW, but playing an MMO for a month with some of you guys could be neat.
