Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Attention Span

Post by RCBH928 »

I am wondering if others are like me

I have what I believe a very short attention span.
I probably cant read more than 20 min, later on I just see the words I know them , but my mind can not consume them. I find my self moving my eyes else where and thinking of other stuff.

Same goes for videogames. I hear people can play for 3 hours, I hear sometime people finish a game in two days. Personally I usually cant play for more than an hour. I Just cant think any more. If it is mindless gaming like online running and shooting, it doesn't need attention, but if you are going through difficult platformer or fighting level boss, I just cant concentrate.

This problem of course is the reason i never get anything done, I just cant stay working on something. I dont ever recall saying "I have been working on this from 12 till 4"

are you like me? is this normal? Cause I hear that people usually finish a book in few days, and you know like college work assignments and stuff they work for 3 hours on it or study 5 hours for exams. All almost impossible for me.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Only under rare circumstances am I able to do any one thing for longer than a short while. It has to be a really good game to keep me going for more than an hour, or an interesting assignment or something. One of the many reasons I didn't make it through conventional high school. Brain just wouldn't absorb shit that I didn't have an interest in, no matter how many times I read it.

I don't have a problem with games, or with reading material that I'm really interested in. But the instant it's labeled as part of an assignment, I have difficulty getting through it, even if it was something I'd always wanted to do. Sitting in class can get pretty tiring, but that's probably partly because all my classes are three hours long.

Same here Ack. I can play a game for hours on end and plow through a book in a day or two (depending on how much free time I have), but back when I was in school I really couldn't focus on the work. Even subjects I found interesting in the classroom I couldn't get into the assigned reading/assignments for. Ended up graduating by the skin of my teeth, but it all worked out in the end.

So, we can all agree that high school/college sucked. I used to fall asleep constantly in my classes. I still graduated high school and even aced some classes. I didn't finish college, but that's because I moved away and got a full time job, which sort of distracted me from getting my degree.

When I game, I often feel like a need a break after playing for awhile or after completing a tough stage or boss. I'll get up and do something else for a little while unless the game is extremely good. I don't think it has anything to do with my attention span. I think as an adult I'm more aware of time than I was as a kid, and I feel a little strange doing the same thing for over an hour. It's like I think to myself, "Here I've got some free time and I'm using all of it for just this one thing when I could be getting a couple different things done today"

I guarantee you didn't sleep in class as much as I did. I'm pretty sure I have some kind of disability that makes me fucking exhausted 95% of the day, but I never really looked into it, as my mom was always heavily against any kind of medication for anything, and I've just never had the motivation to seek help since then. But I really did get a good 6 hours of sleep in class per day. Years after high school, it became obvious that I was the most well known mute kid of that school ever. Whenever I was actually awake, I hardly ever spoke, but my name spread so far simply for being known as "that sleeping kid". I can't count the number of times people have asked about me through my friends, and I have no recollection of any of their names. It's so weird.

Hahaha you just described me! During highschool the principal even bluntly asked my mom if I were on drugs! I can't tolerate classes either, which is why I could never teach anything unless it's an "animated" subject. Also, time at work does pass TOO slowly unless I'm doing something. Just sitting in any uncomfortable position extends the time multifold. I guess time is relative after all.
