Yeah there is. However the DLC was Japan only. It is included in the US version release.

I'd really like to play Tactics Ogre at some point... but I'm kind of OCD about playing series in order, so I'll have to start with Ogre Battle!

If you're set on playing the whole series in order be aware that there's a Japan-only Neo Geo Pocket game.

I really don't feel like committing 20+ hours to a game that I've already played from start to finish at the moment, but I'd kinda like to start a new FF7 game just to see if I like it as much as I did when I last played it.

To me the difference between a good and a great/favorite game is that when you look back on the latter, you remember how much of a good time you were having. So much in fact that you actually know that playing the actual game is never quite as good as looking back on the whole experience and thinking what a great game that was. It's not that uncommon for me to be kind of relieved to be finally done with a game and not really think much of it, but after a week or so, I start looking back on the whole experience fondly, listening to the soundtrack and "feeling" those memories and then I know that it was a great experience.
I've still gone back to FFVII a few times over the years. I think it's aged well, if you liked it back then.

I played the SNES version of Tactics Ogre LUCT myself. I guess people just dumpbed the PSX translation into it. It's almost like every version is worth playing... the SNES and PSX versions have different music, the usual cartridge to CD port case back in the 90's. But I liked the SNES OST more (from what I was able to compare on youtube), and the PSX version has an issue of stuttering with slowdowns for the magic attacks which get really frequent later on. So I don't know about the PSP version, but between the SNES and PSX ones, I'd go with SNES... even though that's the one we didn't officially get over here.

Also it's probably the hardest JRPG I've ever completed, period. FFT is a cakewalk in comparison. I think I had to sacrifice 10 units (some unique too) which I always hate doing, but this is a case of the sacrifices just being necessary for me to progress. I did my best to avoid save states, but used them at times too lol. Even with that handicap it was insanely hard but super rewarding to get through.

Not to say "hard = better!" haha, but man... people who think stuff like FFT is challenging have it easy.

The first Ogre Battle sounds really cool, just complicated as heck too. I think people here told me to read up on its card system before even playing. lol, gotta love Matsuno games.

Ogre Battle isnt that difficult. The card system isnt all that important either. Positioning and squad balance is key. You can make squads that can wipe out maps alone.

How does it stack up next to the TO games?

Different experience. Ogre Battle 64 shares gameplay and builds off the original.

The original is light on story, but is more overhead real time strategy with mini-rpgish battles. You dont control, but depending on where they are placed in battle and what class they are, they get a certain amount of various attacks. You pick one of 4 strategies that can be changed on the fly. This will basically dictate what your troops do if you know the rules of the tactic selected.

A lot of troop management and alignment and reputation management. Tons of secrets to unlock and a bunch of different endings. I kind of like the mystique of the lack of story explanation at times as it makes you seek it out from visiting towns and leaves some stuff up to the imagination.

If you're just looking to beat it, yeah, it's not too bad. If you're looking to get the best endings and get particular classes you have to really worry about your stat management.

Been playing some of Final Fantasy VI sporadically. Working on Sabin's scenario and about to go to the Phantom Forest.
