Plus it's much cheaper to get CIB (thank you plasttic boxes) so that's the version I will be getting I guess
Plus I believe the Mega Drive's amazing circle-pad is great for games like this.

That stuff was pretty common with old computer games so I don't mind it.
I will try out both version on emulators before I make my purchase though, so I might change my mind if the difference in quality is too great.

ZAMN is still a fine game on the Genesis and I like that the neighbor radar is on the screen at all times but if you have to go with one version, go with the SNES one.
Honestly though it's still fun and not terrible.
Street Fighter II: SCE is still my favorite SFII home port of the era. It's the one I grew up with and I love the Sega controller for it. This one is just personal preference though. Super SFII is however ass on the Genesis compared to the SNES.
A few of the SNK fighters are debatable due to different concessions that were made in both versions but all are kind of crap compared to the Neo Geo anyway. Your personal tastes and nostalgia miles may vary.
There are also a few that are pretty much identical. Battletech comes to mind. Phantom 2040 isn't much different either and in a way I kind of prefer the slightly grittier color palette in that game.
Also while not the same game I unquestionably prefer Mega Turrican over Super Turrican (and Super Turrican 2 but that's a way different game).

Also the first Earthworm Jim, the Strike series, pretty much any sports game, Thunder Force III/Thunder Spirits, and King of the Monsters 2 (making it a straight up wrestling game was a good move in my opinion anyway).o.pwuaioc wrote:Lion King, NBA Jam, WWF Royal Rumble, Ghouls N Ghosts, Ballz3D just to name a few. That's a fair point. I remember most of the Tecmo Sports stuff being better on Genesis. Plus, the Sega Sports exclusive games are pretty damn solid.Gunstar Green wrote:pretty much any sports game

What are the differences? I've heard great things about those games too, I should really try them out one day.Gunstar Green wrote: Also while not the same game I unquestionably prefer Mega Turrican over Super Turrican (and Super Turrican 2 but that's a way different game).

Well they're two different games. Mega Turrican became Turrican 3 on the Amiga. Super Turrican was made for the SNES and is its own game though it recycles elements from older games and a few things from Mega/3.
Both are more straight forward action than the older Turrican games but Super Turrican has a bit more exploration to the levels. Not much, but some.
Mega Turrican feels more polished and fully realized as a game. I also enjoy how action oriented in though Turrican 2 fans might disagree there. The grappling hook mechanic is a little awkward and might turn some people away but it's fine once you get the hang of it. Ultimately it's a really solid action title with some really impressive graphics and sound for the Genesis. I did an in-depth review of it here: http://segascrutiny.blogspot.com/2012/0 ... rican.html
Super Turrican is still pretty decent but apparently Factor 5 was forced to use a smaller cartridge at the last minute and had to make some hasty cuts that cause the game to end rather abruptly. You never even get to face the intended final boss who shows up in the intro. I like it, it just feels really unfinished compared to Mega Turrican because it is.
Super Turrican 2 is an entirely different beast. It's got the grappling hook of Mega Turrican for better or worse and goes for a more all-out action approach. It's also a real graphical feast, one of the most impressive looking games on the SNES for certain. It almost looks like a Game Boy Advance game.

Re: How's Your Sega MegaDrive/Genesis Gaming Going On?
I finally beat Aladdin. I always lose on the escape level, it's really annoying.
But after managing to get past that for the first time, the rest of the game was a breeze. The only thing close to a challenge after that were the balloon jumps in the "inside the lamp" level and Jafar himself, though I did beat him after 3 tries so that wasn't too hard either.
A really fun and short game. Great for winding down. I loved it. Now I'm interested in checking all the Disney Mega Drive platformers. Castle of Illusion is really good, and Toy Story was above average (those are the ones I own).
What do you think I should check next? The Lion King? Are Pocahontas and Pinoccio any good? I also remember the Jungle Book being fun (though I never owned it)

Castle of Illusion has a sequel called World of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. I also recommend Mickey Mania: The Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse which is fascinating if you're interested in Disney history. I do not recommend Fantasia. You can safely pass on that one.ZeroAX wrote:Now I'm interested in checking all the Disney Mega Drive platformers. The Lion King is a beautiful, but difficult game. The animation, colors, and music push the Genesis to its limits. The second level of Lion King has an Ostrich ride that reminds me of the infamous hovercraft level in Battletoads. You might be tempted to break out the game genie just for that level.
The Jungle Book is my favorite Disney game. This one has fun music, well designed levels, and challenging boss battles. The music will leave you humming "Bear Necessities" long after you're done playing. The levels are littered with secrets that reward your exploration. King Louie in particular was a challenging boss battle.
