I've been watching Ouran High School Host Club

I sometimes I feel like I enjoy these cheesy Shojo Animes just a bit too much haha. I'm a sucker for a romantic comedy!
This one isn't all that great really but I enjoy the characters and the overall plot. It is also funny hearing some of the dubbed voices being ones that are easily recognizable from much more serious and more popular Anime series.

Valkyrie-Favor wrote:I watched the first episode of Rosario to Vampire season 2 today. I recommend everybody see it, because it's unbelievable. This episode embodies almost everything that is wrong with harem shows. I like the good ones, but...how many of those are there? I think you could count them on one hand.
Eh, I put up with it for the first like...5, 6 episodes of it S1. It's pretty terrible from the start. I mean, not quite to the level you're saying for S2, but it's shameless, panty-shots in nearly every scene, all that, with basically nothing interesting going on.

Nothing wrong with shojo. I finally finished watching Kimi ni Todoke after having put it on hold for a while (had some bad times relationship-wise so I couldn't stand to watch it).

As for Ouran, I'd highly recommend you pick up the manga after you finish the series, since it has an actual conclusion to things (and quite a well done one).

yeah I just finished it tonight, very weak conclusion. I'll add it to my Manga list, want to read Beck as well and get more of that story.

I used to watch so much anime and read so much manga back around 2005 that it was basically my life. I started to become much more picky a couple of years after that having seen so many shows. Still love a good series though.

Recently I have rewatched some of Monster out of excitement for the potential HBO live action adaptation, also been rewatching Kaiji after getting a buddy into it. Highly recommend both of those series. Finally got around to starting Initial D Fifth Stage after hearing the manga finished; I will have to read through all of that someday, I love Initial D.

Edit: As far as manga goes I was reading Watamote a month or so back. Lately just been reading a Junji Ito horror anthology before bed, can't go wrong with some DRR DRR DRR...

I'm currently watching Tenchi GPX. Only 2 episodes in. Not much into 00's anime to present but I do like Tenchi and so far it's ok. I rather reserve my judgement later.

Good luck. The things I hear about anything Tenchi related outside of the main series (Muyo / Universe and the sequel OVA's) sound pretty awful.

I finished Rose of Versailles and LOVED IT SO MUCH. Great series. Today I started the 1980 Astro Boy, which I'm watching on imported laserdiscs. And classic kids show that has a small child die in the first few minutes is interesting in my book. :P I've read some of the manga, but not enough to get a solid idea of the overarching story; I'm looking forward to seeing how the series as a whole plays out!

Actually GXP is in the main series continuity. It's not bad but it's not especially good either.
(Tenchi Universe on the other hand is garbage IMO.)

My favorite Tenchi version is the original OVA Ryo-Ohki continuum, though the Tenchi movies are pretty good and almost redeem the lackluster original Tenchi Universe TV series.

Wait, what's wrong with Universe? lol

I remember liking Kiyone a lot whom was only in the series I think. But if I remember right Ryoko and her rivalry with Ayeka was way better in Ryo-Ohki.

Have you guys seen El Hazard? A lot of the same staff made it. It's another case of having an OVA and a series that are kind of alternate retellings of the same story.

El Hazard: The Wanderers
El Hazard: The Magnificent World 1-2

Great stuff. I thought Alternate World (another OVA) was pretty bad though.
