Except... you do. You make it quite clear you dislike Varg and Burzum every time it is brought up in the thread.
Seriously, no shit. If Varg or Burzum is even mentioned in passing you go on this wild tangent.

I can't believe we're having this fucking conversation again.

How often does anyone even actually talk about Burzum in here anyway? Varg popped up in the news a couple of times because of some antics and that was brought up, but I can't remember the last time anyone brought up any of the music.

If you haven't noticed in the other 90 times the discussion has been brought up, nobody actually has much respect for Varg himself. Congratulations, you're in agreement with the consensus of the regulars in this thread.

We weren't having that discussion. It became focused on one little section when my entire point was to stop bashing people's taste in metal, it's all metal.

Some of you guys that are regulars in this thread, are in complete denial if you really think you don't act like jackholes when people bring up bands or sub-genres you don't consider "metal enough". It happens on a pretty regular basis. Someone brings up Deftones and people start bitching about talking about Nu-Metal. All I'm saying through all of this is that it's all metal and metal has a bad enough image to lot a people as it is that we don't have to do it to each other.

I like Burzum, in fact I'm wearing a Burzum shirt right now!

I don't agree with Varg's actions, although if it wasn't for Varg and Fenriz (Darkthrone) that era of black metal wouldn't exist or who knows how black metal would sound like. They are pioneers and defined the black metal sound.

Also, I don't think anybody is bashing anybody's musical taste. I listen to a wide range of music from rock, to electronic to metal and all it's sub genres, except this christian black metal . Yeah screw that crap. I lol at the guy at the end, he hits the nail on the coffin. It's like a jewish person giving the hail hitler salute. The whole genre is an oxymoron. Hell, most of these bands use corpse paint which is originality intended to be a defiance of god and the christian black metal band members are using them....what?

"Jackholes?" sure, probably. Honestly it doesn't ever get much worse than a snide comment or two, and everyone just moves on. If that really bothers you that much, I don't know what to tell you. Grow thicker skin?

Hell when Deftones got brought up earlier we had a couple of regulars straight up say they liked them. You might get a bit of ribbing, but it's not like we're gonna lynch you for liking the "wrong" band or something.

Frankly, you would get a LOT more shit in here if you start going on about how much you love especially offensive NSBM or something than you ever will bringing up Nu Metal.

Lastly, I can honestly say that I really don't care what the "image" of metal is to the general public, and even if I did, it's not likely that a thread on a retro gaming forum not making pity remarks would change their minds.

I ran into a guy I knew in high school who'd suddenly gotten really into that stuff. Some of the bands are actually alright, but yeah, it's hard to dodge how that whole thing feels like a giant joke. Doesn't help that a lot of black metal these days in general is bordering self-parody anyway.

Yeah, I knew a person in high school that listen to that stuff too, mostly because it was a novelty more than anything. I do have to admit that some of the bands sound good but it's just a big joke in the end. Also I do agree that most of the black metal bands are a self-parody nowadays. Although right now since a couple of years ago a 4th wave of band has appeared in the scene. It's like a whole new renaissance to the genre. I noticed many metalheads clash with one another claiming that's it's not metal because many of these bands are incorporating different elements you don't see in black metal like post punk, shoegaze or at times industrial or synthrock. Also, people complain that this are hipster metal bands. The lyrics are not your typical songs about antichristianity or paganism, they are more about city life, real life situations, nature often, and the cosmos. These sub-genres are called either blackened shoegaze, post black metal or suicidal/depressive black metal. You be the judge.

Those last two have been a part of the genre since the beginning though. Folk seems to be the genre which gets most often mixed up with Black metal

I don't find Christian black metal to be that contradictory.

Musical genres are defined by sound not the "typical" ideology or lyrical content - this is why NSBM is a "scene" not an actual genre.

If it has the distinctive elements of black metal - the production, tremolo riffs, shrieked vocals, etc - then it's black metal. Horde is most definitely a black metal band.

hey, BurningDoom, i think the real issue here is that you aren't really that confident in your own personal taste, which might likely stem from other confidence issues in and around your life. i've known this type for quite some time, and i've been that type before. so i could be wrong, but maybe you should take a step back and let people like what they like, and if they hate what you like, instead of typing one thousand words, maybe just say "haha, ok."

I'm 30 years old. I've been listening to metal since I was about 11, and grew up on the hard rock of the 80s with my dad's stuff before that. Confidence in my musical tastes is far from an issue for me.

And the entire thicker skin thing, it wasn't even me that brought up Deftones. It was another member who brought them up. Then they got laughed at and people bitched about talking about nu-metal.

If you guys want to be jackasses because someone likes Deftones and think it's all A-Okay, then go ahead. I've got metal communities I post in that don't trash other people's musical taste and we can actually have discussions about such bands without getting ridiculed like we're all in middle school. I just figured we were all mature enough, since we are elsewhere on this sight, to be bigger than that petty B.S.

So you're calling us assholes, jackasses, jackholes, elitists, and immature because not everyone agrees with everything you say and BoneSnapDeez made a post that said "I don't either  ".

You might want to re-evaluate the situation and see who it is that is acting like these names you're throwing around.
