I can tell you... I've owned WW for GCN pretty much since it was released. On a few different attempts, I was never able to get into it for some reason. I'm LOVING the U version. It might be the HD graphics, it might be the swift sail, I don't know. But it's definitely the definitive version of the game.
It has to be the swift sail and the second screen on the gamepad. It is infinitely more intuitive to do treasure hunting with the second screen showing your treasure maps. It makes it sooooo much easier than going back and forth having to pause and unpause the game over and over again. They took those tedious moments of that and of having to constantly stop and change the winds direction to get anywhere and threw them out the window.
With many HD re-releases, I would normally say no, but there were some major flaws in a brilliant game that I could see warranted it's rerelease with more modern conventions.

Gotta say, I've never played a game that promised so much and yet I was still bored ten minutes later. If any one is interested, keep an eye on my BST because it'll probably be there soon.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

It should have been good even at the full retail. I just don't know. I've played other Scribblenauts games before and I felt like they did a better job of letting me be creative. This game is really restrictive and that surprises me.

IIRC the GCN, Wii and U all use similar hardware architecture. If anything, they could possibly easily port GCN games to run on the U and release them digitally for the VC. The mini DVD is only 1.2GB I think, which is smaller than my Wind Waker download.
But you'd think if they were able to do that easily then they might have done it already. This was suppose to be the "Year of Luigi" and it doesn't seem like it. Luigi's Mansion on VC would have done well, I would think, being that Dark Moon came out and this is the year of Luigi. Seemed like a golden opportunity.
If and whenever they do it, they'll probably release 5 games a year on the VC.
Easily one of the bigger things I hate about Nintendo's digital strategies... but yes I mostly get why they do it on the business standpoint. It just kind of sucks for us or those who already have the big hitters they constantly re-release. Guess the crazy world of licenses doesn't make it all too easy either in some cases.
I still think a good GC selection would be good though and am surprised it hasn't happened yet or was a push for the Wii U initially (with the Wii being backward compatible it makes sense to not be there). But now that the Wii U lacks that option and it's technically two gens ahead now, I'd say it's time.
