[quote="General_Norris"]Social Networks are simply a waste of time. Most of time spent on them is time spent on unfunny cat pictures and "like if you agree". [/qtuote]
Well sure, if you friend a bunch of morons. I get none of that on my timeline.

Another aspect that hasn't been looked at enough, is that those corporations owe you zero, including preserving your data for future use. The right to be forgotten hasn't been cemented yet, but there's no talk of the right to data preservation. Granted, if you keep your family albums on a site like FB you deserve what's coming to you if it vanishes overnight, but there's a lot of legislation to help out idiots and the less informed.
If social networking is a development that is meant to stay and alter a lot of human culture, I'd rather we have an open implementation that respects people's privacy and gives them an opt-in option to tap into the bigger social picture. With the way things are you can't even have an opt-out once you've committed that mistake. Much work needs to be done, and people need to smarten up a little.
Time and again I have to tell people it's their metadata they're after, that's how their business works. Never ceases to amaze me that so many think those firms exist just to "empower" them to post their selfies and meandering bullshit.

Re: Does social networking irk you?
I visited the Book of Face the other night and saw a little too much of this:

Re: Does social networking irk you?
Here's what people have recently posted on my page:
Done with work, headed out to San Fransisco for the weekend. Places to avoid?
Thank God hockey is back. Detroit will coast in the East.
Free beer at the Shakespeare comedy club on Monday nights. I'll be hosting, so come drop by.
Anyone catch Shield last night?

What's extra weird is to imagine if Facebook and such will still be around 10-20+ years from now. Was thinking about that the other day.
