PS2 swap disc?
Sorry if this belongs in the console mods fourm iwas wondering is their such thing as a swap disc for ps2 i would like to get into the whole import thing for my ps2 as im quite fond of it for my Saturn and was wondering if there are any im not too big on internal mods except 50/60 hz switches so yeah any PAL swap discs that will run NTCS games?
Re: PS2 swap disc?
I don't know about for PAL regions, but I do know that for NTSC there are swap discs that let you play Japanese games. You do need to mod your console so you can open it up without it detecting the disc door as open. But compared to a mod chip, it's really easy.

You don't need one.

All it takes is an action replay with a usb memory stick. It's easy. I managed it with the latest version of action replay (the one that doesn't allow you to boot elfs directly). All I had to do was use the old method of exploiting by copying a rigged PS1 saved game matched to the sles code for the PS1 game. Booting the game and then copying the elfs over to the PS2 memory card. Once the PS2 memory card was formatted with the exploit it's done. All I do now is load my elfs onto the memory card, pop the hacked PS2 memory card in the PS2 and voilà, it boots up to a fully exploited menu and you can run anything from it.
The best thing about it is I can take my PS2 memory card and memory stick with me and plug into any PS2 (Slim or Fatty) and it will boot up the freevast exploit. So if my mates want their PS2s exploiting I just bring my kit around and it's done within 5 minutes.

Re: PS2 swap disc?
thanks ill give it a whirl
Re: PS2 swap disc?
That doesn't really do what he asks. The exploit still cant direct boot import retail copies for you. It can however offer a means of using a game of your region as the boot disc, and then you can swap to the import disc. Problem is, if the import disc's TOC size is larger than the boot discs, it's ganna fail at some point. The solution is to use a game that you know has a 4.37GB TOC like Devil May Cry 1.Niode wrote:You don't need one.

Re: PS2 swap disc?
Yeah but he's going to have to swap disc regardless. This is the cheapest and safest way. Also, he has stated that he doesn't want to install a mod chip. There is no cheaper way than to softmod to achieve what he wants. Besides, if he has a fatty then he could install a hard drive for next to nothing and then just rip any region game to the hard drive and play it from there. That's what I do. I don't even bother using my discs anymore.

Re: PS2 swap disc?
I'm fully aware of all of that. But you're assuming he has a suitable game to use as a boot disc, and to my surprise, there aren't a whole lot of PS2 games that use the entire 4.37GB. If he uses a boot disc that's only 1GB in size, then when the system tries to read anything past the 1GB mark on his import disc, it will fail, (or so I've read. I didn't bother testing, since DMC1 was only $3 at EB. ESR literally came out days later, so that was a very short term solution.)Niode wrote:Yeah but he's going to have to swap disc regardless. Re: PS2 swap disc?
If you have a working fatty, don't go to a slim. You're basically paying a premium for them to take features away from you. And if you exploit your system, just throw a hard drive in there and run games off it.MaliceValentine wrote:Basically all i want to run is Rule of Rose (Banned in Australia) and Space channel 5 special edition
