Does social networking irk you?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

At least there are words like "government" "taxes" "budget" "state" and "economy" amongst the bro lexicon which are completely absent in the female section. Even if it is outnumbered by all the fuck/football/Call of Duty talk by a 1:5 margin, at least there's still more intellectual activity going on with the bros
What's wrong with football talk? I don't think many of those words you quoted are much more inherentl intellectual haha.
Instead on the female side you get yummy, besties, shopping, my hair etc...

I don't know, it just seems useless to me. It causes a lot of unnecessary drama I don't want/need in my life. Oftentimes I see others at my school arguing about "he said this, so she said that" whatever. I would rather discuss more important things with my peers, like why the Saturn is the greatest thing ever, or if having sex with your clone counts as incest or masturbation.
Of course, this might be because I am not a social person. My behavior is perceived either as annoying or hilarious, and the amount of people that hate me never deters me from such behavior. The friends I do have I don't see much outside of school, and every other thing on these sites seems to be what someone did at some party or something.
Insert clever quote here.

The words themselves aren't inherently more intellectual (they can be used in an unintelligent way/context), but showing interest in more pressing and important issues than shopping, football or your feelings is a sign of intelligence
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Eh I disagree. Most of the stuff I see being posted about economics and government display a lack of intelligence or knowledge. I dont think it has any real indication of intelligence. It is just an indication of what people enjoy...

I love fb for keeping in touch with old friends. I only have around 30 "friends" so I only get quality posts and pictures of babies. Lots of baby pictures.

Social Networks are simply a waste of time. Most of time spent on them is time spent on unfunny cat pictures and "like if you agree". It's simply better and more conductive to having a healthy social life to phone people or use a chat program like Skype.

When it comes down to it, all you do is read and write drivel. And everyone knows it. It's mental popcorn, it does nothing but keep you busy all around. I'm not interested in the banal or trite.

It won't get you laid either, if they are really interested in you, they'll give you their phone number. Stop wasting your time.

It irks me because I've tried to get something useful from Twitter but it's simply not designed for it and you must either blindy agree or spout something unuanced and moronic. I can't shut it down but I'm going to reduce my use of it to simply announcing what articles I've written and some small game talk not worthy of a post here.

I keep Facebook around as a chatbox. I cannot phone to Greece or the United States and Skype isn't in widespred use so it's as good as it gets.

I used to log into Tuenti, a Spanish MySpace clone, to use it as yet another chatbox but now everyone uses actual chatboxes like Wassap or Line so it isn't needed.

Social networking is useful and helpful for some people and some kinds of activities and not for others. It's as simple as that. It isn't inherently good or evil, irksome or transcendent, or a wise or poor use of time. This is like arguing whether or not "online forums" are irksome or "radio" is irksome or "video games" are irksome, etc.

Oh I never disputed that. Like I said, you can use those terms in an unintelligent manner ("that commie Obongo wants to raise taxes again"). Read any comment section of any online newspaper and you'll see that for yourself. But having an inquisitive mind and a thirst for knowledge correlates with intelligence. It has nothing to do with economics or politics itself, just the difference in the mind sets between people who want to observe the world, know how everything works and so on and those who remain willfully ignorant.

IRC has been around for a lot longer than before Facebook and Skype

I don't like how you can't permanently delete your facebook account, only disable the stupid thing. I heard that you can email a request for an account to be fully wiped though; don't know if this works. Facebook needs a dislike button.

I like to use the social network site called bebo.com. I use to use moospace(myspace) but no one uses that site anymore. Plus they have completely changed their purpose, it is all heavily built around music now days.

Wow, that's fucked up.

Not that I'm surprised to learn Facebook is built on a flagrant violation of privacy but this is just extreme and dumb.
