This is the reason Sonic is not selling well. It's because the recent games are rubbish. A rubbish game will never sell well. Just like rubbish films that aren't sequels pan at the box office. Now when Sega release a decent Sonic game like Sonic Rush it sells really well, not because it's exclusive to the DS but because it was a great game.

Also, crash bandicoot went crap when it went multiplatform because it wasn't developed by Naughty Dog anymore, not because it was multiplatform. Just like any franchise that changes developer it was shit. Just like when Crystal Dynamics stopped doing the Spyro games, they went shit.

Multiplatform can only help sales, not hinder them. I don't know where you got that preposterous idea from.

Another reason why Sonic being exclusive to PS is a bad idea, is the whole target audience. Sonic's target audience is kids and teenagers. The exact opposite of the PS3. Kids can't afford PS3s, they are generally not the consoles that are bought for kids.

Also modern Sonic being exclusive is not exactly a new idea, Sonic and the Secret Rings was exclusive to Wii. Did that help sales? No. It might have performed a little better than past 3D Sonic games but it wasn't exactly flying off the shelves either. In fact I'd hedge a bet it didn't sell as well as Shadow the Hedgehog, and we all know how crap that game was!

I'm not sure how you guys define bad sales, but...

Sega can still milk Sonic for what he's worth (and beyond). The fact Sonic the Hedgehog hasn't sold a million units was because of the terrible Shadow game before it, but hopefully with Unleashed they'll break even (they do profit either way). Sega doesn't profit much as a whole though, which is why I think they need to think outside the box (yes even more than they do now) and publish games like GTA clones and fps titles that the mainstream salivates after.

Dont you mean Insomniac?

Anyway I think Sonic really needs a platform to call home, not only are the games atm just plain shitty, the multiplatform aspect has created some horrible hardware issues across platforms. If they had just one system to focus on, alot of time to make a GOOD game, and mabe some motivation (big bucks from Sony or Microsoft?) then I think its possible that he may get revived. Another though near impossible way would be if Sega were to put every little bit of money they have left into a new console and Sonic game and hope for the best, but we all know thats not going to happen.

On another note on Sony's anti-mascot style I agree but they seem to have willingly made Sackboy there mascot (I havent seen a new advertisment w/o him)

I just have a different point of view

Most of you are saying sonic is not selling well because it is a bad game

The way I see it is this way
Sonic turned to be a bad game because it went multiplatform, exclusives tend to be better games, because more hope for it

You see this
Bad game=low sales
I see this
exclusive=good game=high sales

its not necessarily true, but it sure helps
Look how much attention is being paid to No more heroes and boom blox. They are not games out of this world, but they are highly appreciate it, some of it due to the game, but some of it due to exclusivity. I think Sonic can reach same state.

Why i chose sony is because of this. Wii has its own mascot, 360 has a lot of attention by people and a lot of games that would turn the attention away from sonic as exclusive game. Sony is the underdog this time around, and they sure need sega fans supporting them, it is also the machine that we need to see its system's potential, all that can be in sonic, if made right.

Any how, this is a topic of discussion, so any one feel he needs to force his opinion he doesn't need to. Its just for discussion, we need to see a sonic come back. For me I really see it in Sony this generation. I would have said xbox, if this was last generation consoles.

Sonic adventure was exclusive to Dreamcast. As a young kind i loved it...but looking back the mechanics are crappy, the voice acting is irritating...and there are about 3 good levels.

Hate to say it, but the PS versions of Sonic [and I believe there were 2 of them?] were pretty awful.

Needs more 2D.

Go DS.

You may be shocked to find out that while modern Sonic games are critically panned, Sonic games sell better than they have done since the Mega Drive days. Most are million+ sellers, and kids I know love Sonic games old and new. As for multi-platform making the games worse: most of the games are exclusive to one console like the DS (Rush, Chronicles) the PSP (Rivals series) and the Wii (Secret Rings and Black Knight). Sonic was recently voted the most popular video game character in the UK. The games may mostly be shit to most of us, but kids eat it up. Why do you think they make so many Sonic games? They make more money for Sega than everything else they make put together.
