The Wrestling Thread
Re: The Wrestling Thread
As far as "fake punches" go, I have seen "chops" up close and personal, and they are anything but fake. The immediate swelling of skin is quite real.

Sounds like I should probably begin from 2010 onwards, which I know some of the 2012-current shows are on Spike TV.TSTR wrote:I'd recommend skipping that era almost completely, unless you're really into watching "The Jeff Jarrett Show."

I can be wrong but the chop is usually the only move that is executed for real because I believe its really harmless other than the sting of the pain, unlike a chair hit/punch/DDT/Piledriver .Luke wrote:As far as "fake punches" go, I have seen "chops" up close and personal, and they are anything but fake. It depends from one wrestling fed. to another, from one era to another, and from one wrestler to another. Some are willing to hurt themselves, others are not. Some federations BAN real hits, some emphasizes them. I know for a fact WWF did deliver a lot more real in ring action than they are doing today.
I also remember Bret Hart must be one of the guys that delivered the most realistic fake punches I have seen. It really looks authentic. Thats the great thing about this guy, he always concentrated for in ring action to be real more than just entertaining hits and punches. I believe he has like a record for never hurting a colleague ever. I also remember he did an interview where he said that he was against Shawn Michael's doing his signature move of being thrown over the top rope , then he would give his back to him, and Shawn would retract back in the ring because it was fake/cheesy but Shawn insisted on doing it.

I'm not a TNA expert, but I will say that the Awesome Kong/Gail Kim feud is one of the best things I've ever seen from TNA. I don't know what year that took place in, but if you search around on the internet you can find videos of their matches and articles chronicling the feud.TheSSNintendo wrote:Sounds like I should probably begin from 2010 onwards, which I know some of the 2012-current shows are on Spike TV.TSTR wrote:I'd recommend skipping that era almost completely, unless you're really into watching "The Jeff Jarrett Show."
It's probably the best thing I've seen from TNA, but there's a lot I haven't seen so I'm sure I've missed out on other awesome things. Gail Kim's feud with awesome Kong completely changed my view of her. I once thought of her as just another nobody diva that spent time in WWE doing nothing. Now I have the upmost respect for her. I'm also very excited by recent rumors of Awesome Kong returning to the WWE
EDIT: I think their feud began in 2007, when the knockouts division title was created

Ever heard what kind of impact Tajiri's kicks make (even in WWF/WWE)? He has legitimately knocked out people in the ring with his kicksRCBH928 wrote:I can be wrong but the chop is usually the only move that is executed for real because I believe its really harmless other than the sting of the pain, unlike a chair hit/punch/DDT/PiledriverLuke wrote:As far as "fake punches" go, I have seen "chops" up close and personal, and they are anything but fake. you can hear the impact even with the crowd noise and commentators in this video
When I said that people in Japan kick each others asses for real in the ring, I wasn't kidding. The punches and kicks are very stiff there. And many guys like Benoit and Jericho who wrestler in Japan before WWF/WWE had to learn how to work their moves soften when adapting to the American style
Vader dislocated a jaw and broke a nose with his fists in a fight against Cactus Jack in WCW. From what I recall from looking that match, you couldn't tell by watching the match that those punches were real and not fake. Quite many moves often actually hurt more in the ring than you'd think, even if is fake and the people are co-operating.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
There is no "always fake" or "always real" moves. It depends on the individual wrestlers, their styles, and what their opponent is willing to do as well; and how much risk the wrestling company is willing to take.
Obviously it's NEVER a real match. There are always pre-planned storylines and it's pre-planned who's gonna win the match. But very often, wrestlers will take real hits and real moves just to make it look a lot more authentic (or often times to "haze" a rookie wrestler). This was a lot more common in the 80s and 90s than it is today, unfortunately.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Exactly this , its not always fake as I mentioned it depends on a lot of things . What I can guarantee you today is that WWE is as fake as it gets. When we asked some of the younger generations that watch wrestling today they say we know its fake but we watch it as if its a tv show. When we were the younger generation we believed that stuff was real! (How can you not when you see stuff like ECW)BurningDoom wrote:There is no "always fake" or "always real" moves. I can't believe I believed wrestling was real until I was 14, thats too old to believe such a thing

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I HATE THE YES AND NO CHANTS!!! It's really hard to take Daniel Bryan (Bryan Daniels) seriously as a championship contender when nearly all of his interviews and promos end up with him yelling YES! and NO! over and over again!
BTW, how freaking hot is Miss Tessmacher?
