I'll see any horror movie w/ Katharine Isabelle in it.

This was... so strange. But I def liked it. Just... I had no idea what to expect going in, and this almost is impossible to accurately describe.

But she was great in it.

  • RE 5
    RE Operation Raccoon City
    Silent Hill Downpour
    Silent Hill 2
    Silent Hill 3
I've started a little early but whatever.

I finished Operation Raccoon City and I'm currently on chapter 3 of RE 5.

I'm still uncertain if I'll play SH 3. I might replay RE 2.

I forgot to mention we watched this:

I suppose I'd classify it as horror. It was uncomfortable nonetheless.

Are you only watching movies that are available for streaming on Netflix?

(I have all of these on my instant queue...)

not intentionally.

I am a longtime follower of Katharine Isabelle, and she's going to be at a horror convention we're planning to attend in October, so I felt the need to see the new flick beforehand.

Little Girl we watched because my wife finished reading the book earlier this week.

EDIT: oh, and the Jennifer Lawrence one we watched cuz

loosen up, prof.

The thread is made. It feels stupid to post about horror thread elsewhere for the time-being. Lots of us like horror stuff the other 11 months too, and don't just pencil in our viewings exclusively for October.

Also, some of us like to pre-game, Ds! I did over the weekend. Dark Night of the Scarecrow got me good and ready for this month.

But now I must cleanse my mind, so tonight I'll be watching a sci-fi action film. But I already have my first horror film of the month picked out:

Looking forward to it.

"pre-gaming"...

I have a pretty busy October; so, I have to start early. Otherwise, I won't get through nearly enough horror movies by Halloween.

Help Me Get Scared This October

Post by GSZX1337 »

Horror is a genre of gaming I've been interested in for some time. I've always thought that video games can be a nice fit for Horror due to its interactivity. For one reason or another, I haven't really gotten into the genre. Now, I don't have an excuse: I've beaten most of the games I set out to beat (mainly those for consoles and currently installed on my PC) and the fact that it's October makes it all the better.

I think I'll start by briefly describing my little experience with the genre: I've played the first three Splatterhouse games Halloween of 2011 and have played the modern reboot last year. I played the PS2 versions of Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Resident Evil 4 back in High School. I didn't like Code Veronica and turned it off after about 15 minutes. The tank controls just frustrated me. Resident Evil 4 got at least a few hours of play and I don't remember hating it, but I also don't remember being scared by it either. The controls really bothered me at the time due to the fact that you can't sidestep while you have your firearm out. Recently, I played Uncharted which has a similar control scheme with you having to pull your gun out so maybe I can get used to RE4's scheme. Perhaps I could give it another try.

Back in 2009 I played the original Dead Space on a friend's computer for about an hour or so and liked it. I thought it made good use of sound by having noise playing at the right time to startle me. I never got scared, but it didn't really have a chance since I was playing in a well-lit room with four other people nearby. Dead Space is in my Steam Library thanks to the recent Humble Origin Bundle so I have a chance to give the full game a whirl. I also played the first F.E.A.R. game, its first expansion pack, and F.E.A.R. 2. I never found any of these games scary. They were just corridor shooters with the occasional bit of freaky shit. I also played Doom 3 back when it was on the mouths of every PC enthusiast. This is another game that I didn't find scary nor did I really like. Like F.E.A.R. I thought that Doom 3 was another corridor shooter. I might give it another try someday, but it's not a high priority.

These aren't necessarily Horror, but I'll mention these titles anyway. I've played quite a few games that either have Horror elements or are tributes to Horror stories. I'm talking about games like Half-Life, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Castlevania, System Shock, Left 4 Dead, and Quake 4. If I can think of any more Horror games I've played, I'll edit this post to include them.

Now, onto the request: What would be some good Horror games for me to try out? I don't care about age as you can probably guess. The platform also doesn't matter if I don't own the hardware to play the game, I'll try to emulate it. I do care about the scariness about the game. I'm not looking for action games with gore. I don't find Slasher films scary (though I do enjoy them), so I don't want the gaming equivalent of them. Other than that I don't have any criteria. Also, if the game you recommend doesn't scare me, I won't be an asshole about it.

Thanks in advance for helping me shit myself,
