Right. Good beginning. Kind of wonky ending. I'm hoping the second one is better.
Black Swan is amazing.
Agreed, but I never considered it a horror movie. It's more of a psychological thriller. It's got some creepy parts for sure, but for me it isn't enough place it into the camp of 'horror' movie.
Drag Me To Hell is great!
Agree wholeheartedly.
Let The Right One In is awesome. No need to see the remake - for me.
Both are good, but there are essentially no changes between versions. So if you see one it's really not necessary to see the other, as they are pretty much the same damn film.
The Conjuring was creepy, good.
Indeed. I was quite happy with it.
Evil Dead 2013 was fan-fucking-tastic.
*Two bloody thumb-stubs up!*
Scream 4 is - DUDE WHY HAVE YOU NOT SEEN THIS YET? It rivals the original.
This is on my list for this year

Oh, and I just read this online and immediately thought of this thread:
Hotel That Inspired The Shining Plans to Dig Up Its Pet Cemetery

This is either a stupid move, or a brilliant marketing campaign.

Actually Black Swan bored me to death...I ended up falling asleep in the middle of watching it. Not kidding.

I had a chance to pick up Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare for the Dreamcast but passed on it because I thought it was over priced. Did I miss out on a good horror game or was it like Resident Evil 1 with it's shitty controls lol?

Also it might not count but is anyone reading scary books? Right now i'm re-reading The Shining. After I finish that I plan on re-reading Rosemary's Baby. "Scary" books don't scare me at all...it's text so how is that scary?

I'm hoping this weekend I can luck out and pick up some horror movies/games at yard sales. I all ready asked for some good movies but the ones I got didn't interest me much. So any classics I should keep an eye out for? That goes for games to...limited to xbox and maybe playstation 2 games if i'm lucky because that's all I seem to find these days...maybe Wii as well.

Yeah I am... I mentioned it on the last page.

The Shining is slow and brooding and creepy but not in-your-face "scary."

And books can be plenty scary... Just let your imagination run wild...

It's a made-for-TV film, but after watching the trailer, I'm really interested in seeing it. Plus with a quote from Vincent Price praising it on the poster, I must know if it's worth tracking down!
Yes! One of the best made-for-TV horror films I've seen. You won't be disappointed.
Highly recommended, kind of movie that stays with you a long time after. Especially in the midst of viewing contemporary horror to show how overrated gratuitous gore, unrealistically attractive actors, shaky cams, and MTV style editing are in most modern horror films.
So I tracked down Dark Night of the Scarecrow and watched it for the pre-game show. Wow, what a great film! Yes, it's obviously low budget, and the acting is very hit-or-miss, but it's a creepy film nonetheless. The ending in particular stands out, and the final line of the film is chilling. It's a shame nowadays that so many horror films fall back on gorgeous people and fountains of fake blood and gore. This one only had a freaky scarecrow costume, and yet it did far more for me.

I don't think I'll ever forget those shots of Bubba's frightened eyes in that sackcloth as he begs while those guys set up like a firing squad. That made my stomach churn.

Started Fatal Frame on PS2 tonight - gotta say, I'm impressed. Some of those ghosts are friggin' tough! I love how you can level up your camera and unlock abilities for it, and the atmosphere is perfectly unsettling.

After playing Silent Hill 2 over the summer (THAT's a game with a really, really creepy atmosphere that I won't soon be forgetting) and seeing the quality of Fatal Frame so far, why can't developers seem to get their horror games right this gen? Why are the PS2 games so much better?

I loved it too. It is one of the trashiest movies I have ever seen, but the fact it involves ballet convinced a lot of people it was Oscar-worthy. I have posted this flowchart before, but I will post it again:

IMO, it perfectly explains why Black Swan is so great.
noiseredux wrote:Let The Right One In is awesome. No need to see the remake - for me.
The remake is good, and IMO, it is different enough to merit a viewing. The mid-budget special effects in the remake are distractingly bad, however.
noiseredux wrote:Scream 4 is - DUDE WHY HAVE YOU NOT SEEN THIS YET? It rivals the original.
I'm working on it! Scream 3 and Scream 4 are on my Netflix queue, and I plan on watching them back-to-back next month.
noiseredux wrote:Anyway, Jordan, you have great taste in horror movies.
Thanks!

Right now (literally, as I type this), I am watching:

It is pretty bad...So far at least, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone...It was actually made in 1971, but I would swear it was made on a shoe string budget 20 years earlier. The setting (i.e., Manila) is interesting, however.

EDIT: Books can be scary (or at least uncomfortable). If The Shining doesn't do it for you, pick up Salem's Lot or Pet Semetary. Also, The House at the End of the Street is on my Netflix queue, and I plan on watching it next month. I am glad to see that I have something else to look forward to during the month of TERROR!!!

Penumbra and Amnesia games are current gen the scariest games there are. Then there's Slender and Outlast that are some other recent games. The AAA stuff like RE6 and Dead Space is horrible, indy games are much better. And there are some games that aren't pure horror that have good mood like STALKER
Though outside of scariness, I don't think that these modern games can touch some of the older greats like Silent Hill 2, System Shock 2, I have no Mouth and I must Scream and Eternal Darkness when it comes to being otherwise interesting (story, mechanics, design)
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I guess I should have been more specific and said "modern console games" but I've heard good things about all the other games you've listed as well. I hope the genre makes a triumphant return to form on the next gen consoles, but I won't hold my breath either.

There's a new horror game that's being developed by the original creators of Resident Evil, not sure if it's on next gen consoles but I hopefully it will be like RE1&2
