just saw this ad for a Vectrex wanted some input on the price? I have been interested in one of these for a little bit, and this seems like a good deal?

$150 is pretty solid for a boxed unit, assuming the seller is honest with said condition.

...I'd request a few non generic pics of the box too, jay.

Yes that's a very good deal. They can go for $300+ on eBay, loose.

I'm still bitter about the $50 one (boxed, with games) I missed by a couple of hours a few years back...

I dunno. $1 sounds like a good price, but what is a Veotrex?

well, going to check out the vectrex, got him to agree to $100. Will update after I get back.

Edit: Well just got back, and am the new owner of a very nice Vectrex system! The person selling it was very nice, and said it was his brothers, but had been in storage for a very long time, he tried to give it to his son, but he preferred to stick with his ps3 haha.

System had the original box with foam inserts, the box is kind of beat, but not bad at all, and the inserts are perfect. The system is in very nice shape, other than some light scratches, and being dirty, it looks great!

It came with 5 games (plus the built in one) and all have screen overlays and instruction manuals (including the built in game). The controller is great, and the joystick is in perfect condition (from what I have heard these are prone to failure).

Games are:
Rip Off
Armor Attack
Star Trek
Star Castle
Cosmic Chasm

Played it for a little bit, and its really cool, though most of the games seem to be the same type (asteroids style space shooter). I had a huge scare though, I put in a game and turned the system on and nothing, no sound, no hum. I panicked! Did it burn out on me? I immediately started searching the net and everyone was saying how durable these are and stuff. I went back to it and removed the cart and it was fine! Just was not seated correctly. One thing I noticed was the screen is much smaller than I originally thought based on videos and such I saw on the internet. Now to search out some games, and look into the homebrew scene I have heard about.

Very sweet, nice find especially since it includes the controller. You can even mod an old Apple II joystick to work, adding a couple extra buttons. I own three Vectrex tabletops; Space Wars and Web Wars are pretty good. You are right, most games take the overhead shooter Asteroids Theme, popular in the early Vector Arcade Cabinets. Rip Off and Star Castle are very close to the Arcade versions. There a few different types of games including Spike and Clean Sweep. Recommend getting the Homebrew cart called Spinnerama that has some of the official games converted to use a 2600 driving paddle. Imagine the control with the built in game with a Spinner!

The Vectrex is a Black and White vector screen. The color overlays add color to the game though they do diminish the brightness a little. Only a few games really need the overlay such as Armour Attack.
