Re: Consoles: 25 Game Strong
25 is a good number if you have exposed yourself to more or less everything a system has to offer and only want to keep 25 games that you can go back to endlessly. However if you are new to a system it would probably be wiser to expose yourself to as many games as possible because you'll often be surprised by games you never heard of previously.
If you do have a rule of 25 then have the games on rotation, if your collection has 25 already then make a rule where when you get new games you should try them and see if they are worth replacing anything in your collection if that is how you want to collect.
The only big issue I see is what do you do when you get to a system like the PS2? 25 is far too small a number for that unless you try and spread out the games by having them on Gamecube and Xbox instead.

That doesn't mean he'll only buy 25 games, only that's the minimum amount of worthwhile games a system needs to have before he makes the purchase.o.pwuaioc wrote:I have a rule, that any console or handheld or gaming computer I buy must have at least 25 games worth playing

Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

It's the backwards compatibility which is compelling. For some reason, I also thought it was compatible with Amiga games, but I'm not seeing that now. (Wait, is the CDTV backwards compatible with regular Amiga games?)BoneSnapDeez wrote:Are you seriously considering picking up an Amiga CD32?
Great system, but you will have a tough time finding games. They're nearly impossible to find in the wild and they aren't cheap online

I think you might be missing out on discovering a unique game for a given system if you require that 25 number.

The CD32 can play Amiga games after some modding. In theory, the CDTV should be able to do so as well. However, considering the amount of hassle and costs involved it makes more sense just to buy an Amiga straight up.o.pwuaioc wrote:It's the backwards compatibility which is compelling. Amiga CD32

Commodore CDTV

To answer your question: "The CDTV was based on the same technology as earlier Amiga systems, but featured a single-speed CD-ROM drive and no floppy disk drive as standard."
So you'll need some kind of modification for that I think. The CD32 can also play floppy disk games if you attach an external disk driver to it, but as both systems are CD based, they aren't compatible with regular Amiga games out of the box

Majority of CD32 games are ported floppy disk games, but the Amiga has a much larger library of games than the CD32. There seem to be a few CD32 exclusives, but looking at this list, most of them are games that are available on PC, CDi, Sega CD and other platforms, so they're not truly CD32 exclusives, just games that weren't on Amiga but were on CD32.

Btw this comment pretty much summarizes CD32, sadly
"One reason I never got around to getting a CD32 was the amount of 'shovelware' on it. Publishers would throw any old game onto a CD without any enhancements or music. The game IK+ took up half a megabyte of space on a CD, leaving 649.5 mebabytes empty. "

Yeah, from all this, it seems futile to get an CD32. I will now consider getting an Amiga, however. Some of these games are looking pretty good. Actually, it first occurred to me to look into it from Stark's and Bone's post on Agony.

I still need to get an Amiga (and VIC-20) myself. I have a Commodore 64, Commodore 16, and Amiga CD32. Not gonna bother with the PET or CDTV.
Re: Consoles: 25 Game Strong
Any good games for the Vic-20? I've yet to actually own a C64, but I'm thinking the best route instead will be the C128.BoneSnapDeez wrote:I still need to get an Amiga (and VIC-20) myself. I have a Commodore 64, Commodore 16, and Amiga CD32. Not gonna bother with the PET or CDTV.
Re: Consoles: 25 Game Strong
Go nuts and get the 128d, though 99% of use will be on the C64 side. As for the Vic20, aside from emulation and the Vectrex Spinnerama Cart, the best version of Omega Race played with a game paddle. Also Type Attack works beautiful with larger font on the 22 column screen. Look for Shamus as well. For the ultimate C64 get a SX64.o.pwuaioc wrote:Any good games for the Vic-20? The VIC-20 is a solid system if you're into Atari/Intellivision/Odyssey 2 style gaming and ports of golden age arcade games. Don't expect anything too complex.o.pwuaioc wrote:Any good games for the Vic-20? Any reason you want a C128 over a C64?
