The Red in the Sky is Ours is pretty interesting with that slightly-out-of-tune violin playing all the time on it.TSTR wrote:The earlier stuff, while good in its own right, is much more dissonant and straight death metal.

Well, I am now.Ack wrote:So...anyone else excited?
I would suggest these bands if you are looking for more of that sound. There are tons of these bands but these are just a few that aren't the usual suspects (COB, Amon Amarth, Insomnium, etc) that I think are standouts.BurningDoom wrote:So if anyone can give some great suggestions similar to Scar Symmetry, it would be much appreciated.
Kalmah -
Skyfire -
Be'lakor -
Norther -
I suggest At The Gates as well. They are the best of the original 90s sound that started this genre imo.

Ablaze My Sorrow is a great and underrated Swedish melodeath band from back in the day.
Arsis from the US is also solid as hell.
As Hope Dies is another decent pick if you don't mind the metalcore influence.
AND AT THE GATES IS STRAIGHT UP MANDATORY

I agree that Arsis the the shit but they are much more on the technical death metal side of things with thrash and brutal in there, I think he is moreso looking for melodic if not on the progressive side (uh oh, here we go again).BoneSnapDeez wrote:Arsis from the US is also solid as hell.

On a sidenote, the US is getting a lot of good metal bands lately. Yes these guys are American.

Not bad at all. I really dig this style of black metal.Sasha_Blue wrote:I found this band the other day. Though of sharing it with you guys

And I give the uploader props for having a Summoning userpic.
One of the "suggested videos" is 13 minutes long and is titled "I think I met a poser today..." Might be worth a watch later.

It's awesome if you like the atmospheric style of black metal. It's very soothing actually.

Re: Metal Heads Assemble!!
I've always enjoyed Russian black metal. Too bad that scene is filled with so much NSBM nonsense.
