outside of the concept that "the thinman is an internet myth," I don't actually know much about the whole thing. Maybe you can outline it a bit for those of us not familiar? That might actually make me interested in seeing some of said videos.

The Slender Man was originally created on June 8, 2009, as part of a competition on the Something Awful forums to edit photographs to contain supernatural beings or monsters. The member who put up the Slender Man photographs, Victor Surge, also added snatches of text, effectively turning his shopped photographs into snatches of stories. The Slender Man went viral, first on Something Awful and then across the Internet.

A few months after the creation, another Something Awful forum member began creating a series of short films on YouTube, entitled MarbleHornets, documenting a film student trying to create his first feature-length production. The found footage series documents the film student's interactions with Slender Man. Other series of short films followed, along with the eventual video games and now feature length films.

So Slender Man is entirely a product of the Internet, first being born in a photoshop contest and eventually leading to series on YouTube, fan-made games, a character based on Slender Man appearing in Minecraft, and now feature-length productions. Here's a paragraph from the Wikipedia page worth reading about the large reaction to the character:

"The Slender Man was called "the first great myth of the web" by the BBC.[14] The success of the Slender Man legend has been ascribed to the connective nature of the Internet. I've heard that, but I think it was more inspired by the myth and then intentionally plays off it to make money. The plot for Tall Man differs a fair bit from Slender Man once you get into it.

Last night my wife and I worked on Episode 1 of the Walking Dead...



I let her do most of the controlling since I had played Ep1 in the past. I loved watching her make decisions and see how she'd play differently. It was tough not revealing spoilers haha.

Anyway, Walking Dead is such a great game. I'm hoping we play the whole season throughout the month. I really recommend everyone play this game - including dsheinem who doesn't like "click & point" games. Forget what you know about the genre. This redefines it.




Then my wife and I were discussing the Slender Man and it led us to want to watch Candyman. I still love this movie. Still need to track down Glass' score.

Candyman is great. Didn't realize it was based on a Clive Barker story until I purchased one of his anthologies this year.

Speaking of which, I should try out some of the Clive Barker video games...

And I too would like to check out I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. Doesn't seem to be a very cheap game though. The story it's based on is fantastic.

Then my wife and I were discussing the Slender Man and it led us to want to watch Candyman. I still love this movie. Still need to track down Glass' score.

Candyman is awesome. It is easily my favorite Clive Barker film adaptation.

My wife an I finished part one of Tobe Hooper's Salem's Lot miniseries, and I expect us to finish part two this evening. It is not as good as I recall, unforunately, but I am hopeful that it will pick up in part two...

That said, I picked up some horror movies on good, old-fashioned DVD this morning. They are:

The Craft,
Jeepers Creepers / Jeeper Creepers 2,
Jennifer's Body, and
Freddy vs. Jason.

I have not seen any of these movies, and with October coming up, I could not resist them for $1.25 each.

My wife an I finished part one of Tobe Hooper's Salem's Lot miniseries, and I expect us to finish part two this evening. It is not as good as I recall, unforunately, but I am hopeful that it will pick up in part two...

That said, I picked up some horror movies on good, old-fashioned DVD this morning. They are:

Jeepers Creepers / Jeeper Creepers 2,
Jennifer's Body, and
Freddy vs. Jason.

I have not seen any of these movies, and with October coming up, I could not resist them for $1.25 each.

IMHO, don't go into Jeepers Creepers with any sort of expectations of quality. One of the least enjoyable horror films I've seen.

IMHO, don't go into Jeepers Creepers with any sort of expectations of quality. One of the least enjoyable horror films I've seen.

I actually quite liked Jeepers Creepers, one of the better horror movies of the 2000s era, imo. Pitch Black is another one I have some love for, even though it isn't a horror movie. The quality for horror films in the last ten years has seemed to have sharply declined...
