I'm in love with the texture of small SteelSeries cloth mouse pads. Plastic ones often don't have enough resistance but a lot of the cloth ones I have tried have too much. The unfortunate thing is, that while they are cheap, they don't last super long. This one is about 8 months old and the edges are starting to come up off the rubber. To be fair I use the crap out of it; more than most reasonable people would. I'll use it till the new year I suppose.

Mo slip mo bettah! Cloth ones make dust and trap dirt too. I suppose if you like them, you like them though.
Getting a steel mousepad was one of the best moves I could have made when it comes to hardware.
First, they are bigger. I don't need to pick up my mouse to move the cursor around, not even while using three screens. It makes normal navigation more confortable and it's important for first person shooters. Having to pick up your mouse during a firefight and not being able to turn around well will get you killed.
Second, they are firm. They don't have unequal zones, it takes as much effort to move around the edges as it does in the center and they don't bend or get wrinkled. This makes them more confortable by a considerable margin.
Third, they are smooth. The less force you need to push the mouse around, the better.
So yeah, go buy one!

so here's the funny thing. This thread has not given me any reason to want a gaming keyboard. The mechanical kb I tried in the past, I didn't love. And I don't play games like WOW that require a ton of extra hot-buttons or whatever. I'm also not sold on a gaming mouse. Again, don't play enough games that would warrant it, and they all seem to be really huge, which I'm not sure I'd find comfortable. BUT, you all have sold me on the idea of a gaming mousepad. So job well done, gang!

What PC games do you play? And perhaps you would find the m&k controls more to your liking if you had a gaming setup. If you play a lot of games that just need a bunch of mouse clicks then maybe not necessary.

I don't know what you mean by "gaming setup," but my PC, 360 and PS3 are hooked up to a monitor. I sit at a desk and play. But I use a 360 controller for the majority of PC games.

As in a pc gaming set up. And yeah, almost all of your games except TF2 were built with console in mind so a controller wouldn't be rough to play them.
