Playing ripped Dreamcast games ruin the dreamcast?
I have heard that playing ripped DC games will ruin the DC, is this true? I have heard its the laser having to work harder to find the info on the CDR?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

ASFAIK it's true, and it's the same as with most consoles, but probably more so on the DC because it's meant for gd-roms. All you can do is make sure you use good quality cd's and burn at a slow speed. But I wouldn't worry to much, I've been playing backups on my DC for around 5 years with no problems.

Pretty sure it's not true. Search the forums and check the old threads about this to be sure. I've never heard of a DC laser burning out or whatever because of that, and I think I've seen it confirmed false a few times here.

I have a 1998 launch Japanese Dreamcast and its still got the same laser running in it.kingdomheights777 wrote:I have heard that playing ripped DC games will ruin the DC, is this true? I have heard its the laser having to work harder to find the info on the CDR?

I must of put in 10,000 hours of gameplay on it with EURO, USA, Japanese and Burns
Yes it still works!!!
I say it happens to any DC where the laser goes bad. Even with original games. Its just a matter of taking care of your stuff.

My dreamcast from 1999 still works fine, and I've thrown hundreds of backups at that thing.nickalley211 wrote:my friend has a dreamcast that he played burned games on that died. it worked great untill he started burning games, after about a year the thing just died out. But i know a lot of other people who do the same thing and it doesnt seem to affect their dreamcasts...

The laser is going to wear out regardless what you play in it.
