Something that went through my mind as I'm watching the marathon...

You know when I think about that episode where the Nazis are watching Jesse's video, where he's showing remorse over his deeds and shock over Todd killing a kid - to the point that the Nazi dudes are calling him a pussy, and remember how Hank saw all that and still didn't give a shit if Walt killed Jesse, it really drives home what a shithead Hank was. Consider also that Jesse's just a kid and Hank was happily willing to throw Jesse to the wolves in the hope of getting it on tape. That's why I didn't feel a thing when Hank died. He's an ass. I just needed to say that. It's surprising to me when people talk about how sad it was when Hank died. This is the same Hank who treated his wife like crap when he was in rehab, absolutely hated having to console Walt when he was crying about his marriage problems, and cracked jokes whenever him and his DEA pals found someone's dead body

The dude was a jackass. I'm glad "Heisenberg" won that little battle between them this season, even though "Walter White" was very sad about it.

The views of Jesse that Skyler and Hank held are much different than the views we as the viewers have. To them, he hasn't evolved past the way he was in the first episode. He's a meth-making drug addict criminal. He's also not really a kid by any means, he's 26-27 on the show.

Hank's pretty stupid if he believes that after hearing Jesse's full confession AND seeing him scream, "HE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS!"

Hank's just an ass

Buy anyway, I really enjoyed that finale. They've done a stellar job on this show. I think it's one of the best of all time. It's nice to see a show where they never screwed anything up.

I thought the final episode got the job done, but reinforced that the show was about the process of transformation rather than the ending-point.
I'm surprised that Jesse lived in the end. To me, the whole show felt like it was building up to be a huge tragedy and while it kind of *is* the ending felt pretty reserved and low-key. You know, despite there being a giant automatic weapon blowing away a room full of neo-Nazis?

^ yup. I thought the last two episodes were far better than the final one. Really, the show probably should have ended last week by adding a few quick scenes to show Walt dying alone and unfulfilled and, perhaps, Jesse killing himself in the dungeon. The ending was far too "happy" for this show and felt, frankly, like a bit of a cop out.

But then again, I liked The Sopranos ending (at least after the initial shock), so I'm not sure if I'm in the majority here.

100% satisfied. Finale Perfection.

Satisfying being the key word. Gilligan has used this word several times when talking about it, and I 100% agreed. Keys being left on the pool table? Machine gun knocking out every one of 'em? Keys in the visor? Who cares, it all came together and it was SATISFYING. I fell out of my seat, I couldn't sit still during that nazi hideout scene. I felt like I had ADD. My heart was beating out of my chest. I was screaming out loud. It was perfect. It wrapped up the story threads near perfectly. And Jesse making the box? Holy shit these guys are meticulous! I will say (if you guys will actually believe me) that I thought about that box going through all these seasons, and that him going and buying that box back could be a perfect ending moment for Jesse. I of course never expected them to recall that moment, It was too small and inconsequential. But this is breaking bad, and they remembered it. Not only that, but they included it. In the finale. Not the way I expected, but still, it was satisfying. Amazingly.

Oh, and please god let the debate fodder of him "doing it for his family" finally be over now. Walt admitted the truth, he did it because of his EGO! He did it for HIMSELF! In fact, in that scene Skyler even has a line that can almost be seen as the audience's line where she tells him not to say it again, not to say he "did it for his family". I felt like this was Vince throwing down, saying "Walt is an asshole, he's a bad guy, I've been saying this in interviews for three years but people keep siding with walt, so I'm going to put it in the show, I'm going to have Walt finally say that it was never for his family, it was for himself".

but Walt thoroughly convinced himself that it was all for family, in his own mind that was always the truth until in the final episode when he had his epiphany. So people weren't exactly wrong in saying Walt was always motivated by family because that's what he himself always believed. It's a lie he convinced himself was true. You could argue that Walt never truly understood himself until tonight.

And say what you will, but Walt made sure his family would be alright in tonight's finale. When all is said and done, Flynn WILL have money and Skylar will not go to jail. So does that mean that Walt doesn't care about his family? I think not. AND he save and protected Jesse, his surrogate family.

And Walt isn't an asshole or a bad guy, he's just grey. For every seemingly evil moment he had in this series, there were moments of redemption, and we saw those again tonight. If Gilligan's goal was to convince us that Walt is vile, evil, and contemptible...he failed. To me, Walt is just a morally grey character. He's not really good or evil. He's somewhere in the middle. Dual personalities. Walt is the good. Heisenberg is the evil. We saw Walt do a lot of redeeming this episode, and interestingly enough I don't think he ever had his Heisenberg hat on
