Some cheap keyboards will only take input from a few keys simultaneously which can be an issue if you're playing an FPS and holding W and D to move diagonally while holding CTRL to crouch then try to his space to jump or E to lean to the right. Ones with special layouts can help with things like having easy to reach keys for activating abilities in a game like WoW or doing functions in an RTS where it will give you an advantage over having to move your hand further away from the movement keys.

Playing WoW with that would be horrid. Your aim would suffer greatly against m&k in shooters. Why do you think most console shooters have auto aim or aim assist?

Damn are most modern FPS controls so complicated? I don't think I've played a PC FPS game since the STALKER series.

Most of the RPGs I play are "slow" enough so that if I fumble around the keys for a bit it doesn't matter.

What's most crazy (and somewhat impressive) to me is the fact that they make specialty keyboards and mice geared towards one specific game.

They make those for several games. Just pre-programmed commands and an overlay. They use the same keyboard base for all of those. Mostly a licensing and marketing tactic.

Yeah that makes sense. Maybe they'll make a badass D&D themed keyboard someday.

Anyone else play FF XIV with a controller?

I would, if FF XIV didn't have a subscription fee.

I play pretty much all my PC games w/ a controller.

Gasp.

I am using M&K for XIV. It is such a pretty game. Fun so far as well.

Speaking of licenses and marketing tactics....

As is often pointed out, a vanilla Topre Realforce keyboard costs about that much anyway...

I don't play XIV with a controller. I might try it at some point, but mostly I need to acclimate to using a mouse since XI I played entirely with a keyboard.

Still way less buttons than a keyboard or specialized keypad with a layout designed for keeping your hand mostly still.
