It's not all disgusting displays of human avarice coming out of the GTA V launch though:

Some teenagers in Toronto on their way back from picking up the game helped save a 70-year-old man from burning to death in his house.
You'd think they would have robbed him and stolen his car, but I guess they hadn't played enough of the previous games for their precious young minds to be warped.

If you think this is bad now, wait till you see the PS4 console release. I bet it will be chaos.

Hopefully there will be enough to go around.... but I suspect and suggest police be onsite for those who go to launch day purchase.01toubib wrote:If you think this is bad now, wait till you see the PS4 console release. I bet it will be chaos.
As for the ridiculous behavior of the GTA V launch, there were PLENTY of copies to go around. Reading the story about the mentally handicapped guy getting his copy stolen made my faith in the human race slide down just a bit more as it does daily. The 1st article with the video, I thought the lady handled herself in a professional manor, that dude over reacted.

Re: The Crazy S#IT People do over owning GTA V!
Was listening in on a conversation between two of the clerks at one of the nearby GS the other day and apparently one of the clerks got put on leave after refusing to sell GTA V to a 6 year old
.
Apparently the kid dragged his mom in and the guy explained the rating and mature content to her but got the "but he wants it" response. So of course they caused a scene and the manager got involved
.
Was funny because right after they got through talking about it another mom tried to buy her elementary schooler Saints Row IV
. Was pretty funny she had been browsing around the store and had previously refused to buy her kid Mortal Kombat because it was "too violent" but then she went and picked that up. Best part was she freaked once they told her what the game was about lol. Her response was all the box says is the president fights aliens lol
. The level of ignorance some parents bring to the table is astounding is the ESRB rating system not simple enough
.

If the mom says it's ok for them to play GTA 5, then they have to sell it to her.Fragems wrote:Was listening in on a conversation between two of the clerks at one of the nearby GS the other day and apparently one of the clerks got put on leave after refusing to sell GTA V to a 6 year old.

It isn't GameStop's responsibility to determine what is and isn't appropriate for another parent's child. As soon as the mom said it was okay for her kid to have the game after having its content explained to them, it should've ended there. That's her responsibility, not the store's. If the clerk was still refusing to sell the game, he was overstepping his bounds.Fragems wrote: Apparently the kid dragged his mom in and the guy explained the rating and mature content to her but got the "but he wants it" response. Technically yes, but it I can understand the desire not to sell to someone so youngoxymoron wrote: If the mom says it's ok for them to play GTA 5, then they have to sell it to her.
Edit:
I think the real issue was the mom wasn't really into buying it after hearing about the content, but the kid was throwing a hissy fit and she caved
The clerks in my area are usually mellow but they have been known to get ticked by excessively obnoxious customers.
We do have some major league brats in the area. Recently one of the clerks "banned" a kid from the store for being a grade A scumbag. Kid was with his mother who was terminally ill and in a great amount of pain. She refused to buy him all the games he wanted so at the check out he kicked her and said "I hope you die soon so I can get all your money". Needless to say there was an exchange of words about his behavior and he was told to never come back.

Dude, I remember when San Andreas came out, there was this dad and his 6 (maybe 7) year old kid who stood in line together and the clerk didn't hassle them about it. By law they have to tell the parent why the game is rated M and after that if he/she says it ok, then they HAVE to sell it. And based on what you said it seems more like she didn't know rather than she didn't give a shit. It isn't the clerks job to act like the kids dad.Fragems wrote:Technically yes, but it I can understand the desire not to sell to someone so youngoxymoron wrote: If the mom says it's ok for them to play GTA 5, then they have to sell it to her.. So many parents just don't give a crap though

There is no law requiring a video game retailer to inform a customer of a game's rating; there is no law prohibiting a video game retailer from selling a game rated M or AO to a minor; and other than basic anti-discrimination/public accomodation laws, there is no law requiring a video game retailer to sell an in-stock game to anyone.oxymoron wrote:By law they have to tell the parent why the game is rated M and after that if he/she says it ok, then they HAVE to sell it.
Many video game retailers have policies to this effect, but those policies certainly do not have the force of law.
