Robotrek might have sold better if they left the title intact. I have it but have only played it for a few minutes. I will go back to it some day and try to learn those mechanics.
Anyway, I have just beaten Mickey Mania...I'm not a big fan, truth be told. While it generally met the visuals of the various Mickey Mouse cartoons through the years, the art style, music, and controls are all considerably rougher when compared to the Capcom games starring Mickey Mouse that predate it on the SNES. And there are a few places which I felt were poorly designed. But there were also some spots using Mode 7 or some sort of visual trick to imply 3D images that blew me away! Especially the first wall in the Lonesome Ghosts segment. That wall moving as I wandered through the front door? Awesome!

And truly a gems1rweeze wrote: Just started Robotrek today. Everyone talks about "hidden gems" but this one truly is hidden, the real title is apparently "Slapstick" and that's much more fitting. I guess the powers-that-be in North America didn't think that would sell so they changed the title and made the cover art some generic sci-fi spaceship thing? And it still didn't sell. Which is a shame because this game is a lot of fun (once you get a grasp on how to do things)
This is going to be an amazing game for your show mate. It's one of the few JRPGs I've beaten twice, and not even games I like more (in theory) like FF6 or Super Mario RPG have had that privelage.
Also make sure you fight all the battles you can to level up, cause there is a butterfly boss later in the game that is going to kick your ass if you don't level.
Also, mellee weapons and rockets FTW
They are not that complex, quite the opposite really. You just have to understand/read an FAQ on how the weapons synthesis/upgrade system works. After that you are share to have one of the most fun experiences one can have with an SNES, and as you seem to be someone who has deep knowledge of the SNES's library, you understand how big those words I said really areAck wrote:Robotrek might have sold better if they left the title intact. I would agree going into this game blind can be off-putting, which is probably why it didn't sell too well. It reminds me of the original Legend of Zelda in that you really need the instruction book to learn how to do things (thank the maker for the internet so we don't have to pay some ridiculous price for the book)ZeroAX wrote:They are not that complex, quite the opposite really. Once you get the hang of things though, the game is a blast, and programming your robot is addicting. There's quite a bit of grinding but I enjoy it because I like trying different approaches with my robot.

If I had to make a top 10 list for best graphics on the SNES, Mickey Mania would be on there. Seriously impressive. Conversely, this is one of the few SNES games that has extended loading time. Are there any others?Ack wrote:Anyway, I have just beaten Mickey Mania...I'm not a big fan, truth be told. LOL. I bought the game complete for less than that 2 years ago.s1rweeze wrote:(thank the maker for the internet so we don't have to pay some ridiculous price for the book)

Street Fighter Alpha 2 immediately comes to mind. It's always the first game I think of when I think of loading times on the SNES.s1rweeze wrote:If I had to make a top 10 list for best graphics on the SNES, Mickey Mania would be on there. Yeah, that is more than double what I paid for my copy.ZeroAX wrote:LOL. I bought the game complete for less than that 2 years ago.s1rweeze wrote:(thank the maker for the internet so we don't have to pay some ridiculous price for the book)
Anyway, I'll be sure to give Robotrek a try, but I have such a backlog of games, it may be a while! I'd like to get back to Secret of the Stars eventually, and there's still Live A Live to beat, even if I have taken a break on that for several months now...
Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
Batman Forever does. It tells you when it loads to HOLD ON. But trust me, you do NOT want to play that game. I only have that game from an eBay lot that included better games like Buster Busts Loose and Beavis and Butthead. Oh, and Earthworm Jim 2. But my opinion on that may be better suited for the Unpopular Gaming Opinions thread.s1rweeze wrote:Conversely, this is one of the few SNES games that has extended loading time. Are there any others?

Yeah, I also own Batman Forever, and it is poor at best. There are much, MUCH better Batman games on the console. In fact, there are no categories I can think of where Batman Forever excels. I'd only pick it up if you were a completionist or a huge Batman fan.ExedExes wrote:Batman Forever does. It tells you when it loads to HOLD ON. But trust me, you do NOT want to play that game. What if you have an "ironic" collection of notorioulsy terrible games and you enjoy mocking exceptionally dated digitized graphics?Ack wrote:Yeah, I also own Batman Forever, and it is poor at best. Out of this World has load times on SNES, right?
I always felt like Lost Vikings had a little bit of "lag" between levels.
Anyway, I played a little bit of Axelay last night. I suck at the game and it makes me dizzy.
