Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
For our "movie night" this week, my family watched:
Porco Rosso (1992) - We found a DVD copy at a yard sale, and while I thought it was considered one of Hayao Miyazaki's minor works, I was shocked by its quality. The story was touching; the characters were lovable; and the aerial dog fights were very exciting. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I would recommend it to any fan of Studio Ghibli animation or anyone who is looking for a great family film.

Star Trek: Into Darkness
I enjoyed the 2009 reboot despite it's action-heavy nature and the ridiculous destruction of Vulcan, but this one was not doing it for me. Some of the performances were good, particularly Cumberbatch, but it's all hampered by a rushed, plot-hole filled story, some idiotic and counter-intuitive character interaction (Spock/Uhura), callbacks to older Trek that don't ring true, and loads of fight sequences that become boring one after another.
I immediately had to watch Star Trek II to wash the taste out of my mouth.

I want to check out that Rekka flick. So what was the last film I watched?

Gonin
Seen it a while ago. Distinctly Japanese and distinctly Beat Takeshi, with a bit of weird on the side.

Still a great movie. Gotta love that early '80s synthesizer soundtrack. Sometimes a movie where a guy slowly goes nuts and slaughters a ton of people is the best thing to watch.

I recently just picked up The Mummy, Shaun of the Dead, Paul and Doom all on bluray is nice steelbox packaging for 11.99$ each! So I've been watching those a lot

I went and I watched Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me yesterday. I think it added enough to the original formula to still be entertaining without going as crazy over the top as Goldmember did. It's also fun to see all the 90's slag I'd forgotten about being parroted by Dr. Evil.

Rewatched the remake of Total Recall.
I don't care if it's not like the original, or the book. As a stand-alone movie I liked it just as much as the original. Kate Beckinsale annoyed me a bit though. She was still too much like her character in Underworld. Running and panting with her mouth open and shit. You're not a vampire woman. No need to show your fangs. Having Bill Nighy in the same movie didn't help either. He didn't even fit the role if you ask me...
Other than that it was a nice ride. Good acting, nice special effects and action scenes, good pacing. Maybe a bit too dragged out near the end. But that's nitpicking...

Best one in the series, IMO.MrPopo wrote:I went and I watched Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me yesterday. I thought I remembered seeing rumors of new one being on the way.
