Retron5 will be available December 10, 2013. :)

They have confirmed that the Sega power base converter will work on the console to allow Master system games as well!

Finally, a good reason to get excited about a console release

Isn't back on Amazon yet....

In the meantime, is there any website where I can pre-order this?

isn't even up on Hyperkin's site yet for wholesale order. I'm pretty surprised Amazon ever put it up.

For 32X games? Maybe. If not out of the box then perhaps with a firmware update. I'd like to hear more about it as well.

For the 32X itself it's impossible since there would be nowhere to hook the 32X's video cable into the Retron 5.
From the official twitter feed:
"Hyperkin: @driph The RetroN 5 WILL NOT support Sega 32X games. (09/20/2013 8:05:59 PM from web in reply to driph)"

The 32X is a whole different beast compared to the PBC.

The 32X not only has its own power supply but hooks up to the Genesis via a cable. The PBC literally just plugs into the Genesis - just like a Super Game Boy into a SNES.

Back on Amazon - though the release date doesn't appear to be correct.

I'm gonna pre-order one as soon as I have enough dough to buy a gift card.

I could of sworn I posted this here...

This pre-order link was officially announced on Hyperkin's Facebook page:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6868181036

I'll end up pre-ordering at the end of this month/beginning of next month if pre-orders are still available. If not, I'll just buy one when it's released.

Well the HDMI NES from Retrousb is no longer running on official hardware, it is fan made from the ground up. Granted everyone who got to play it at the Portland Retrogaming event said it was spot on. So I am still buying both, but it is alittle disappointing. On the upside it looks like it will have four controller ports:

I love the fact that the retroUSB team can prototype an HDMI NES....but they had to write their sign in sharpie on a piece of cardboard. It's so cute!

Yeah, but it was a last minute addition (apparently the prototype was finished the day of).

More info on it:
This is my dream project (no, the add on board was never the big one) and has been in active dev for a full year not including planning. It is the main reason why I shut down so much of the website and don't have time for other projects. The add on board could still happen using what I have developed but certainly not during 2014. It hit problems in Feb that made certain TV not work. It was essentially done, unless you had a Samsung. Rather than spending the time to fix that I moved onto the real project:

It is a clone that uses an FPGA to run the whole system, no software emulators or NOAC. Includes NES and Famicom slots, they are the same thing. Other cool stuff like Game Genie and Scoreboard built in.
It has 5 control ports with built in Four Score plus the Famicom expansion port.
It can run HDMI out for HD quality video, CD quality audio, and no frame buffers that add lag. Other than the expansion audio input from the cart there is no analog in the system.
It will be released some day at least 6 months from now. Fabrication and shipping takes 3 months alone!
It will cost money to buy, hopefully less than $150.
(thanks Mark!)

There will be the obvious comparisons to Retron 5 but I see them very different. I will never be able to compete on price against a large company with chinese factories and retail connections, so that alone makes the target market different. I am aiming for the smaller group that can tell when a clone has issues, instead of the mass who can't tell or don't notice and aren't thinking about quality. The people who want to use obscure controllers, original equipment, and play new homebrews. Even the styling is designed to remind you of the system you love. It certainly isn't insulting to me if you pick the Retron 5, their system will do well and sell lots. This system just has a different mentality from the start.

Mine is a huge financial gamble for me that is still scary...
Im iffy on it since it is not legit hardware, but they say you cannot tell the difference, and the videos are pretty convincing.
