Some great stuff so far.

I just happen to have obscure taste in video games as well as music, but certainly more well known games with soundtracks that are overlooked, or unappreciated despite their greatness are appropriate as well.

Very true. I know I would occasionally be in parties that would route through The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah on the way to different camps.

That's a pretty good track to start off a game with. It also reminded me of another gem of a soundtrack on the NES:

Little Nemo the Dream Master (Stage 7)

Game music is a niche all unto itself, despite recent attempts to popularise it. My problem with many games is that they have only a handful of catchy/memorable tracks whereas the rest acts as filler, similar to much of film scores. And there's the issue of lack of releases as well. An example of this is the Walking Dead game. No OST is out for it, and the game files lack fidelity to stand on their own. There's also the issue of identifying the tracks themselves. Plenty of ripped music are just numbered tracks.. Kind of diminishes the experience.

It's a pretty highly acclaimed game but not a lot of people talk about the amazing soundtrack

What I like about this one is that it's inspired by many war epics' music but with an obvious JRPG vibe to it to make it more hopeful.

I'll tear this thread up eventually, but for something on my mind right now...

The main trilogy has amazing music all around. My favorite from the first game. 3's OST is really impressive with how huge it is along with the game though, despite all the bosses and locations (+ time travel), it feels like none of the music is ever recycled and it just keeps consistently sticking together from start to finish. It's definitely been a highlight of revisiting these games lately.

I'd say for composers themselves, it's absolutely criminal to me that Hiroki Kikuta has never done much compared to others. If he had been as active as Uematsu/Mitsuda during the SNES/PSX era, I'd probably view him as my absolute favorite. I have no problem saying the SNES Mana OST's are probably my favorites... and that's a tough call.

And though I don't have as much nostalgia for their games, I'd argue Technosoft's stuff is right there next to the best of the best from Megaman, Castlevania, etc.

Soul Blazer on SNES has an absolutely amazing soundtrack! The Mine is one of my all-time favorite tracks :)

Not much to add, just wanted to say that this thread has made me listen to the F1 Challenge soundtrack pretty much non-stop all day long.

The track from the Hockenheim stage is my personal favorite:
