Hell, most of the other "Mario games" have little to do with Mario anyway. He's just a stand-in, being the Nintendo mascot and all.
The gap between Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine was pretty wide, woah.
But yeah if I were to go for "every Mario game" personally, I'd have to seriously go out of my way to get every Mario game. Including stuff that's barely related like Wrecking Crew or Tetris Attack.

I found tetris attack recently at a thrift shop. I was wondering why it had yoshi in it.
I have the whole Wario Land series (minus VB Wario Land). I don't collect wario ware. I have Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, Wario Land 2, Wario Land 3, Wario Land 4, and Wario Land Shake.
I have most of the Zelda games, but new ones keep coming out, so I never have the complete set. I have Legend of Zelda, Adventure of Link, Link to the Past, Link's Awakening DX, Ocarina of Time, Link to the Past and Four Swords, Four Swords Adventure, Collector's Edition (which includes Majora's Mask), and Twilight Princess (gamecube).
I am hoping Wind Waker will dip below twenty dollars soon. I'm also eyeing the Oracle games and Minish Cap.
I definitely have the more Sonic games than I reasonably need. I have Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), Sonic 2, Sonic 2 (game gear), Sonic CD, Spinball, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, 3D Blast, Adventure DX (gamecube), Adventure 2: Battle (gamecube), Mega Collection Plus (PS2), Gems Collection (gamecube), Advance, Advance 2, Advance 3, Heroes (gamecube), Unleashed (PS2), and Colors (wii).
Sometimes I have to stop myself from buying duplicate Sonic Games on different consoles. For instance, I came close to buying a copy of Mega Collection for gamecube; I already have this for PS2. Just last month I had to talk myself out of buying Unleashed for wii; I haven't even played the PS2 version I bought.

Do yourself a favor and get the three DS sonic games: Rush, Rush Advantures and Colors (its a different game than the consoles).
Since you have the Advance games those three should be an easy recommendation.
I no longer own a DS. I have played Rush, and I like it more than any of the Advance games. Someday I will own a DS lite again, but I already have so many consoles. I just know that once I buy a DS, that will open the floodgates. I'll buy those three sonic games, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, and New Super Mario Bros.
