BurningDoom wrote:X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse deserved a proper sequel, as well. One of the, if not THE best 2D beat-em up I've ever played. The characters, enemies, and settings were very faithful to the comics. The controls were just spot on, with a Street Fighter-esqe move set for your mutant powers and special attacks. Great Capcom polish in the graphics and sound, too. The only problem with the game is that it's far too short. So a sequel would have really benefited this game.
Wow! There's one that needs some mention or love or something around here. Street Fighter style moves and just an all around good time that game is.

^ For sure.

If you like that one, check out Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems. It's similar, but MUCH harder. It stars a spread of Marvel characters to choose from, rather than being limited to just X-Men. And it has a more "cosmic" storyline. And you get to choose the first handful of levels in any order you want to play them in, ala Mega Man.

RnR was available on Genesis though. I figured this was for SNES exclusives.

With that said, Olaf hits the warp! Grinder is in another time zone!

I don't know about SNES games that should have gotten a sequel, but I know of an NES game that should have gotten a sequel on the SNES: Crystalis.

I think if it was done right, it would have been a stellar action RPG that could have gone toe to toe with ones like Illusion of Gaia and Secret of Mana. The additional buttons would at least solve some of the button limitations (switching of the swords, menu items, etc.).

Honorable mention: You know how Mega Man 9 went back to the visual and musical style of the classic 8 bit MM games? I'd like a Mega Man X9, done just like the SNES ones with the same type of graphics and sound, but with more horsepower (just like MM9), and a fully playable Zero mode. I know, you're thinking "just play Mega Man X4".....uh no, I don't want the laughably bad cutscenes with my MMX games. Too bad that will never happen....

Localizations of Xak and Ys IV/V would have filled the SNES action-RPG void a bit....

But yeah, I would have loved to see another Crystalis. Best SNK game. 8)

Great game, but it could have done without the forced grinding. At least make the enemies give up more XP!

I played this for a good portion of the summer of 1998, and I had the worst time finding those damn goggles, among the grinding rants. I finally beat it on Labor Day evening, and found the ending quite satisfying.

I challenge you to find an 8-bit JRPG without grinding.

The SMS version of Ys is particularly bad in the beginning.

Yeah, but to not defeat any kind of major boss WITHOUT being a certain level? To be totally invincible to any sort of damage before that point? That's unheard of. From what I understand, the GBC port made it easier somehow?

Of course, I bring this up in a SNES thread. Um, yeah. Crystalis 2 for SNES!!!!!!!!!

Wait are you talking about Crystalis? Because this also happens in Ys (most versions at least).

You can't complete a low-level run of the game, it's literally impossible to cause damage to certain enemies until a level threshold has been achieved.

Oh wait this is the SNES thread. Uh, Ys V rules! Shoulda had a sequel on SNES!

Dear god yes! This has to be the single most worthy game in the history of gaming deserving of a sequel that never received one.

It felt a lot like the original Legend of Zelda, but done better. Everything was better. Better graphics, better music, better locations, more enemies, more dungeons, more items/weapons, more towns and NPCs, and more story-driven. Plus the added RPG elements really fleshed out the gameplay.

I never felt it was "grindy" like has been said, though. Any RPG makes you grind a little. And other NES RPG games at the time like the Dragon Warriors, Final Fantasy, and the Ultima games were much heavier offenders.
