So I played for a bit last night and won the knife game - it is just a game of timing, but it did take me three goes to get eight targets. I beat the eye boss and started exploring the other three areas. Ive leveled my attack up enough that when playing as a Barbarian I am oneshotting most baddies in the forest and castle, and two shotting alot in Maya. As a Hokage I one shot most everything. It probably helps that I am level 62 and apparently some people beat the New Game + at a lower level...

I cannot get around beating the skull boss. I just have not gotten a good setup yet. Though I was told by a buddy of mine to put all my runes into retribution and play a paladin, or play a spellthief with the clock. Apparently that makes short work of him.

If you are capable of one-shotting his minions, then I would also suggest a Hokage, especially if you have a piece of armor or a rune which provides vampirism. You can use them to regain your health while in the battle. And whatever you do, try to manuever around his X- and Y-coordinates. His attacks only move in straight lines, and he stops for a few seconds before each one of his bursts. The instant he stops, move out of the line of fire.

Personally, I use at least one dash rune and one jumping rune so I have extra mobility options. With this guy, you can wait for him to approach you, hit him once, dash away, wait and hit him again, dash away, etc. And when he stops to attack, you double jump and dash your way to a different level of the battlefield to wait him out.

Ha, I'm probably screwing myself by spending all this time buffing up. I'm level 135ish and have only killed the castle and garden bosses. For runes I've settled on dash, jump, fly, and money boosters. I'm so used to those movement runes that if I switch them off for some life steal or something I am suddenly broken and start falling into pits.

I didn't care much for fly, since you can only use it after having used all your jumps, but many of the Fairy Chests are designed for people who have several mobility runes. You can get most with just a double jump and a dash, though a triple jump isn't bad. I didn't use any runes for money though. I figured it would be better to keep vampirism going instead.

I took off the dash rune for the one time I found Charons Obol. Four Bounty Runes and double jump, on a miner, started with 3k ended up with 15k. Died to a homing guardbox in hell that I just could not see. Now at level 88, still havent killed Alexander, just enjoying my runs into the Maya.

Thanks for the link!

I downloaded the "Maladies" album because I liked the idea of an album themed around various diseases. I just started listening and I'm liking so far. He has a lot of stuff. Anything else you would particularly recommend?

Just grab it all man. I haven't really been disappointed by any of it. I really should send him some money at some point.

Beat it yesterday, almost twice. In newgame plus the castle is the worst place to be, the Maya, Hell, and Forest, all do not scale as much - same enemies more health, but the Castle has a whole hell of a mash of enemies. Nothing like walking into a room with nine Pupils shooting at you. Or a fairy chest room with two Botis's and a bunch of Plankys...it just gets mean.

He is good. The Maladies album reminds me of 90s era brain dance music.

I haven't found any one artist with this much amazing free music since I discovered Wisp

So, after enjoying the music of Tettix per Hobie's recommendation, I went ahead and bought Rogue Legacy when it went on sale at GOG. It's so FUN!!! I love the way they have taken a short fun randomized rogue-like platformer similar to Spelunky, then grafted on long term goals as you build up the inheritances and estates of your offspring. It's just brilliant. The gameplay is also pitch perfect. It just doesn't seem to get boring. Love it.
