this is embarrassing. I started the game last night for the fifth time. I realized while digging thru the options menu that when I started the game last time and was messing with the options for random stats etc that I had inadvertently set it to Easy mode. Lame. I knew the game felt wayyy to easy this time.

Anyway, 3 hrs into this playthrough. Things are going pretty well. Lost one country and two troops so far, but other than that kicking ass and taking names.

Well finished my campaign. Lost 8 troops and no countries. Rolled through this one this time. When the expansion releases I will jump the difficulty.

My plan in the sequel is to turn on as many of the crazy options as I can, as well as trying out the Impossible Ironman playthrough.

I'm not sure why it took me so long to figure out that the key to success in those abduction missions is to make sure you focus on killing the Cryssalids (sp?) as soon as you see them. Ignore any other foe as long as you have a clear shot at a Cryssalid. That's smart management. No Cryssalid's means no zombies.
