I'd replay a game if it had huge graphics update like psx tomb raider -> ps3 tomb raider.
Tomb Raider is a total reboot if the series isn't it? That isn't even comparable.

Like what everyone has said, it really depends on the game and how much you enjoyed that game. For me, Wind Waker HD is a definite purchase. The game mechanics stand the test of time, the story is rich and vibrant and intriguing, a much larger departure from many of the other zelda games and I felt that the combat system was such a joy to play.RCBH928 wrote:Does any one find those HD bumps worth RE-playing the game just for the graphics upgrade? I also was a huge fan of the camera back in the day and the new WiiU features utilize the pad in a great way that appeals to me. This game is amazing and was way ahead of its time. I understand why they did it.
Other games, like Mario Sunshine would also make perfect sense. that game was meant to have a Wii Remote to handle that giant squirt gun.
I don't tend to get other HD releases unless they are bundled as a package, like Ico/Shadow of the Colossus, or the game is really expensive in its original state.
It is not a completely useless idea, especially on a Nintendo platform. The Wii was not HD and the motion controls/pad could really add new twists to some of the older games that would make it so much more enjoyable.

I wonder about this because i dont know how much work goes into HD re-releases . Do they just hit a button that says "export to 1080p" or does it take over a year of work to re-draw the game. I heard RE2 took tremendous amount of work to port from psx to 64 , so how much work will it take to upgrade gamecube -> Wii U , in the end will it generate enough profit for Nintendo? As a gamer there is no way any one can complain about HD releases , but I wanted to know Nintendo(and others) perspective on these kinds of releases

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
The differences between PS1 and N64 hardware were stark enough to require quite a bit of effort to port RE2 (designed for the PS1) over to the 64. With GCN to Wii U, those differences are much less pronounced. Wii U is more powerful and uses a larger storage medium so beyond upping the resolution there's not all that much they have to change.RCBH928 wrote:I wonder about this because i dont know how much work goes into HD re-releases . You've got to redraw the textures at a higher resolution or else the game will be a blurry mess. They also updated the music a bit and redid the lighting effects.
It's certainly not as arduous as making a game from scratch but it still takes quite a bit of time and technicalbeffort. Hasn't the FFX/X2 HD remaster been delayed twice now?

They also have to implement features that utilize the game pad, integrate the game into the miiverse, which was something that they did for RE: Revelations that I thought was a hoot. There is some work that goes into it to make it a worthy addition to the library. You will see with Windwaker HD just how much has really changed.BoringSupreez wrote:The differences between PS1 and N64 hardware were stark enough to require quite a bit of effort to port RE2 (designed for the PS1) over to the 64. Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I think it's really important to recognize when something has been legitimately remade and when something is just HD'd.
WindWaker, Tomb Raider Anniversary, and to a degree the Sly HD games were/are pretty much remakes. Where as God of War HD, Devil May Cry HD, Ico/Shadow of the Colossus HD, and the Metal Gear HD games are not.
My distinction between "HD" or "remake" is whether they're re-interpreting the material ... or just reproducing it. If it's reproducing it, then even if it takes a lot of effort, no real thought of altering the game is going to take place.
In terms of effort, it's actually very difficult to "HD" an existing game from previous console generations. Most of them have to be re-written from the ground up. In most cases, they have to take the retail game and reverse engineer it to build a code base to make an HD version. Architecture differences between consoles of the previous generation (PS2) to the current (PS3) are so vast, it's the easiest way to do it.

Looks like target will be having a buy 2 get 1 on all wii u games next week. I might take advantage of it, I would get Wonderful 101, rayman legends, but not sure about a third.
