Oh I will not keep you from playing, by any means! Beyond Zork was written by Biran Moriarty, who worked on the LucasArts game, Loom and The Dig and is really good at his stuff. I was just suggesting that if you want to see some of the better Zork stuff, Zork Zero is really good. Steve Meretzky wrote it and he was responsible for A Mind Forever Voyaging, The Leather Goddesses of Phobos and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It is really really good. Check it out sometime!

I completed the coal mines, and I'm very glad my lantern (and candles) held up to the task very well. I am at around 15 treasures collected. I will press on in the next few days.

Yeah just type, "inventory" and it should pop up with the items you have.

I tried "look at inventory" and it didn't work, so I figured no such thing existed.

Yeah zork was at a time when the parser was still very rough.

I highly suggest reading this. It breaks apart what goes right and what goes wrong with the Zork parser and how that translates into the bigger picture of Infocom works in that time.

The author, Nick Montfort wrote a very engaging and interesting book claled, "Twisty Little Passages," breaking apart the interactive fiction genre, its growing pains and the state of the genre now in the modern era. A great read.
