7 game stops within 20 miles of me.

15 within 50 :P.

They are worse then Walmart at this point lol. Hell there used to be more even :P alot of the shopping malls nearby used to have 2 of them since they bought out their competition :P. They are just now getting to the point that they are reverting to 1 gamestop per shopping complex :X.

all this talk about game stores makes me want to open one. there's a guy on the local CL here trying to sell his game store for only $12K. i guess he's going through a divorce? really tempting. wish i was in a better spot financially.

From my local pawn shop. 5.00 per classic game, no matter the system or condition. He sold me the lot at 25.00 even. Nice additions for my personal collection at a good price.

@AppleQuesso

Maybe some are, the ones that have been there for over a decade and have loyal returning customers, but I do not see it as a profitable business to get into. And maybe I am underestimating sales. I live on a tiny island with a total population of around a 1 million. When I traveled to Europe, I didn't understand why we had to stand in a queue to be served by the register.

@Ziggy

I can see that they can make a lot of money on fix&repair because pricing is flexible on that. I am not sure how parties and tournaments can help the store financially , I thought those were "marketing" methods which needs spending.

I do appreciate the personal experience too, but personally speaking, I rather browse online. Whenever I browse at any shop I get stomach aches. Be it books, videogames, dvds, or whatever. And the quieter the store is , the worse the aching gets .

@Fragems
Good lot for $27

Why is everyone upset about Game Stop? It sells you games closer to your home, you should be happy. They will buy your used games too.

@aaron

$12k including all the furniture, games, and systems? thats kind of low.

@beatnix

I didn't know there was 3 harvest moons for the NGC

If all the furniture and stuff is included, that's a really good deal.

The basic problem is that they've merged with or bought out nearly all of their nationwide competition, and at least some of their European competition as well. They're the major video game chain in a lot of places.

All of them doing the same range of products, same business practices, same prices, etc. The companies they absorbed were more diverse. It'd be nice to have a store that buys/sells older generation stuff, but there isn't one near me. There are, however, three Gamestops I could get to within 15-20 minutes.

Short answer is they corner the market in every city they move into :P. At this point they have little to no direct competition in my region aside from retail stores like best buy and walmart which are geared more towards other stuff :P.

I like having a central place where I can always find a boatload of games but with them sucking up the majority of the current gen used games it makes it much harder to find "epic" deals at least when hunting more recent games.

why do people always complain about Gamestop? they don't sell retro and anything beside new releases you can find for way cheaper online. not sure how they are pushing out the little guy, If you want to hate someone hate the internet.

:P lets just drop the game stop talk :P.

There are plenty of good and bad things to be said about them and plenty of other threads to post them on.

Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

On that note it was a pretty dry day for me :P. Going to my grandparent's house this weekend and will try to hit some yardsales/thrift shops but it is a pretty small town so my hopes aren't to high :P.
