i listened to it. it's kind of a bummer because its levity is severely hampered by the timeliness of its release. there are a million cookie-cutter bands doing that heartwork style now.

but, yeah, i thought it was pretty good. not earth-shattering, but good.

yeah, if you're an early carcass fan moreso than a Heartwork carcass fan, you're probably going to be really underwhelmed.

Yeah, definitely.

I prefer the earlier stuff, but I also do happen to enjoy Heartwork, so yeah. The lack of "grit" in the production of the new one keeps seriously bugging me. It makes the album constantly feel like it's missing something. Some good songs and a lot of enjoyable moments, but still, something I'm noticing a lot listening to it.

I mean it's Carcass, even Heartwork was nasty sounding, as it should be. It probably boils down to Andy Sneap taking over the mix on the new one instead of Colin Richardson. Oh well.

most older bands who come back with a newer album suffer this fate. the new black sabbath record is a good example. a little extreme, but, yeah. you could say the same about the new suffocation stuff but i actually like the newest one, even though it's super clear compared to, say, pierced from within.

I don't know if it's just something that affects reunions, though you probably hear about those albums more since it's easier to hype up the first album from a band in 17 years than it is to hype up the newest Motorhead album or something. (speaking of, that one comes out in October I think. I'll probably nab that one without even needing to hear it. It's Motorhead, you already know exactly what it's going to sound like.)

I'm not sure if it's a case of the producers not taking the time to find a unique sound that works for each band, or if it's more of a case of the bands just wanting their album to sound similar to other recent releases in the genre, or what. Production is rarely something that can actually kill an album for me, but "off" sounding production definitely brings it down a little.

A bigger problem with reunion albums though is that often they just try and pander a bit too much. The bands basically walk in and try and just capture the sound of the albums their best known for, and often what you get, while sometimes being pretty enjoyable in its own right, ends up sounding a little... off. It's rare that a band truly captures the spirit of their older material it seems. I'm grateful to see these bands around again and making new music, of course, but you know... yeah.

You do get bands with really strong reunion albums with good production though. I think Autopsy's newer stuff for example is probably going to still be held in high regard years down the line.

Okay, so Entombed was supposed to have a new album coming out in October, but now it's been delayed to 2014.

Even stranger though, is that apparently Alex Hellid has quit the band and joined up with Ulf and Nicke to reform an older incarnation of "Entombed" and are going to perform Clandestine in its entirety.

That's really cool that the old lineup is back together but uh...so there's two Entombed's now? The classic lineup one with Alex Hellid and another totally different lineup fronted by Petrov? I am so confused.

Entombed is another band I lost interest in a loooooong time ago.
