:? I've been thinking about getting a job. I've always worked in the food industry and then retail for a short while, but I don't want those kinds of jobs anymore. I think a desk job being a receptionist will really help me out and look great on my resume. I have management experience, but I don't know if that helps or not. Also, the thought of putting the kid in daycare is kinda scary as well.

I like being a stay at home mom, but I don't like not working. This is the longest I've gone without working and I feel weird. We don't really need the extra money.. it would be nice though.

 I actually got to play with the 3DS today. Jinx might not get it back.
If you don't need the money, I would say stay at home with your kid while you can. It will help your child develop as you don't know what type of care you will get at daycare. Daycare is also expensive with the more reputable places costing $800 a month. Offset that from your expected salary and it may not be worth it.

I agree with this.

Also, with the field you are entering, having "receptionist" on your resume is not going to do much for you. If you do go back to work, you should look for something a little more relevant to your career. (In other words, working as a receptionist - or anything else - at a funeral home would probably look a lot better than working as a receptionist at some other business.)

being a receptionist at a funeral home is hard work. everyone's dying to get an appointment there.

It depends on the church, and for some reason most people think Mass lasts forever ('cause they've never gone). In my experience Mass lasts a lot shorter than any Baptist service. It's go in, pray, get out. No fashion show, no meet and great, just tell Jesus what's up and leave. It's not a social scene like most churches.

And finding a job like that requires a lot of digging, especially if she works the graveyard shift.

Take!

First of all, Jynx, glad to see you made it through the last couple of weeks.

Cara, a week ago I would have told you to get a job just in case Jynx was let go, but now that it seems he will be ok, focus on school. If you find later you do need the money, then do both, but try to get through as much school as you can first! Once you finish, then get that job.

Ds, that's terrible, and you're a terrible person for posting it. I salute you.

Luke, I'm sorry to hear that. My grandmother on my father's side is also at the end of her rope, and my dad's been busy lately trying to take care of her affairs, which are apparently a mess. I hope everything works out and your wife handles things well.

Repo, life takes time and goes in unexpected directions. Two years ago, I was working graveyard shift at a gas station and hating myself. Within the space of six months I went through a rough time but came out in Atlanta with a career and a much better outlook all around. It did require some drastic changes and more than a few sobering moments. Also, I think you'll find things tough in New York City too. But if you want it that bad, then set a date and work towards it.

Not knowing what kind of care she gets is my major worry. I can deal with the cost, but I wonder how I will deal being away from her while she is in a strangers care. Jinx is home during the day anyway, so it might not be necessary, only if I get a job that overlaps with him getting home.

Me getting a job means we get a new car faster, and we save more money. It also allows me time away from the kid, which at this point I need some. Don't take that the wrong way, I love my kid, but I literally spend 24/7 with her. The only 'breaks' I get are going to the grocery store. I won't feel as guilty spending time away from her if I'm making money that can be put back into the family.

I can get a job at a Funeral home now, which is something I am looking into. The reason why I was going for a desk job first was because it's set hours, while working at a funeral home isn't. I can always wait until *December when I'll be finished with school, but I really don't want to. I figured something temporary would help us out a bit and get me out of the apartment.

Also, Luke, that is more literal than you intended. My family owns a Cemetery that is too small for machines.

Ack, that is a good point. I don't want to overwhelm myself with both work and school. It's looking better, but I still want to have a back up plan in case Jinx's job doesn't work out. I don't want to have to depend on anybody again. I absolutely hate having to depend on anyone because we can't provide for ourselves. My family is full of moochers, and I refuse to become one of them.

I don't even have a resume together yet, this is all talk at this point. I start school at the end of this month, so I'm going to wait until then to see how it plays out. I still want a job though, I hate feeling useless. I know I'm not, but I've been independent since I was 13. I really hate not having my own source of income. The house wife thing isn't for me.

Edit. *Next December.
I'm here for your body.

I've said I'd be renting an apartment in New York City WITH ROOMATES! And I've been looking on Craigslist and I keep finding quite a bunch of rooms for rent (in apartments! with roommates!) in the $300-500 range, and I pretty much filter out anything without pictures.
