Current setup
Quadcore QX9300 2.5Ghz
4Gigs of ram
8800GT
I was told get the 4870 by ati and if i'm really baller get the x2
I just recnetly got back into pc gaming and decided may as well have it all maxed out right?
Someone recomend me a good graphics card!
Re: Someone recomend me a good graphics card!
Going from the 8800GT to the 4870 isn't worth the price. I'd stick with that 8800GT for at least another year.
Re: Someone recomend me a good graphics card!
not a big enough jump in graphics?
Re: Someone recomend me a good graphics card!
Pretty much. The 8800GT is still quite capable. I use it on a much less powerful machine than yours, and I still run modern games on high settings at 1680x1050. It might be holding you back some if you insist on maxing out AA and AF settings and such, but you don't really need to do that anyway. It's up to you. If you can sell the 8800GT for like $120 or more to someone, then it might be worth the upgrade.holaback wrote:not a big enough jump in graphics?

Yeah even with my current setup graphics look AMAZING! But i guess I'm being too greedy and wanting full max everything and even the difference isn't even that big I know. :/
Re: Someone recomend me a good graphics card!
I've been down that road before. It's not worth it. Not only are you aiming for hardware that will be halfprice in 3 months, you're also playing a dangerous game because top of the line components are the buggiest you can buy. You become the guinea pig before the product is put into mass production.holaback wrote:Yeah even with my current setup graphics look AMAZING! What about the idea of getting another 8800GT and run SLI? The 8800GT is pretty damn cheap these days.
Re: Someone recomend me a good graphics card!
Read up on the countless problems nearly all games (and the drivers themselves)have with SLI, and you'll forget all about that idea.holaback wrote:What about the idea of getting another 8800GT and run SLI? The 8800GT is pretty damn cheap these days.

Re: Someone recomend me a good graphics card!
Overclock the damn quadcore....seriously....Core2 clocking is so easy I can do it in my sleep 2.9-3.0 should be child's play regardless of your ram or cooler. However like others have said the 8800gt is still pretty capable of a card, I will disagree with the issues on multi-gpu's...while we still get small issues with some game by and large multi-gpu gaming is quickly becoming standard these days in the PC world, I haven't had 1 iota of an issue with my 4870's and ATI is known for having more driver issues then Nvidia does, I however have a 32 inch lcd so I actually need the 2 cards to keep things smoothly at high resolutions.
If I where you and truly worried, not that you should be the only thing that might out demand your system is High+ AA/AS Crysis(which is because the game is programed like hot trash), I would do a nice light overclock and grab a 2nd 8800gt hell they are like $90, even cheap through e-bay.
